Climb a mountain

Nothing beats the feeling of setting two feet on a summit and taking in the views from up on high. Despite its watery name, it’s the mountains that truly make the Lake District a unique landscape. There are over 200 peaks within the park, and each offers unique challenges and opportunities for adventure.

Local experts Lake District Mountaineering are on-hand to show you around the fells. They offer guided mountaineering sessions on a range of peaks in the Lake District. Take in the towering heights of Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain, or choose from a number of family-friendly days out on smaller fells like Catbells, High Rigg, or Walla Crag.

Paddle on a lake

The Lake District’s sixteen tranquil lakes offer unrivalled views of the surrounding hills. There’s no better way to take in the park’s wide open spaces than atop a stand-up paddleboard, gliding peacefully across these still waters.

Local to Ullswater, England’s second-largest lake, Ullswater Paddleboarding offer SUP lessons, guided tours, and paddleboards for hire right by the water’s edge. Watch your worries drift away as you paddle across glacial water and take in the stunning mountain views to the south, which soften to gentler hills north of the lake.
