Paddleboarding, wing foiling, kitesurfing and fishing are the main options. Dorset SUP Stand Up Paddleboarding in Southbourne runs paddleboard lessons and guided SUP tours, while Easyriders, about 4 km away, teaches wing foiling and kitesurfing and features in our Easyriders spotlight. SW Lakes Dorset Fisheries in Longham sells fishing tickets. See also the Poole and Dorset pages.

Group paddleboard lessons start from £45 per person and guided SUP tours from £75. Adult fishing day tickets are £17, with junior and concession day tickets at £10. Some fishing swims are priced per booking, such as Parlour Pool from £53. Wing foiling starts from £85 per person for a group beginners lesson, and 1:1 kitesurfing tuition is £145.

  • What can I do in Bournemouth in winter?

Fishing, paddleboard lessons and the Brownsea Island and Christchurch Harbour SUP tours all have dates between November and March. So do Easyriders' private wing foiling and kitesurfing lessons, and laser tag with The Outdoor Ed School, about 12 km away. Easyriders' group wing foiling lessons and SUP rental have no winter dates.

  • What are the minimum ages?

The listings don't state minimum ages, so check each activity page. SW Lakes Dorset Fisheries sells junior day tickets for ages 13 and under and for 14 to 17. On Dorset SUP lessons, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Easyriders asks that you can swim 50m unaided.

  • What should I bring?

For paddleboarding in winter, Dorset SUP asks you to bring a wetsuit, wetsuit booties, a hat, a towel and dry clothes.
