The Peninsula Classic should be in every angler's diary. Hosted at Kennick, this annual fly bank fishing competition is open to all anglers. Early entry is advised to avoid disappointment.
The competition is for Rainbows and Blues only. The lake is divided into two sections with anglers having 3.5 hours to fish each section, with an hour for lunch in between. Fishing in the morning will be from 9:30am until 1pm, with fishing recommencing at 2pm until 5:30pm.
The competition bag limit is 10 fish in total. Anglers may catch a maximum of three fish in the first Zone in the morning, then when fishing in the final zone where there is no limit, anglers may fish until they catch the bag limit of 10.
With the causeway being out of action, transport will be provided by boat from one side to the other.
Rules and Information
- The “Peninsula Classic” is an annual bank fly fishing competition. The competition venue will be Kennick Reservoir, Bovey Tracey, Devon. The competition HQ is situated in the Lodge at Kennick, by the boat moorings.
- The “Peninsula Classic” is open to all anglers. Pre-entry is recommended.
- Competitors must have a current Environment Agency Rod Licence.
- All competitors must leave their vehicles as directed.
- Competitors must register at Competition HQ between 0800-09.00 hours on the day of the competition. No competitor may leave the Competition HQ prior to the briefing at 09.00. No fishing before competition start time 9.30. Competitors may not lay claim to any fishing station prior to dispersal.
- The lake will be divided into 2 sectors. Draw will be made for initial sector, and anglers will draw a colour and corresponding number. A walk off will then occur at one minute intervals. With the angler numbered one going first.
- Fishing methods will be in accordance with the rules and regulations of the fishery contained in the Kennick Regulations except that 10 fish bag limit will apply to competitors. There will be NO TIME BONUS. MAX OF 3 FISH IN THE MORNING. THEN THERE IS NO LIMIT IN THE AFTERNOON UNTIL THE TOTAL BAG LIMIT IS REACHED. ONLY Rainbow and Blue trout may be weighed in.
- No competitor shall fish within 10 metres of another competitor without first requesting, and receiving permission to do so.
- All fishing shall cease on the sound of the finish klaxon at 17.30 hours. A fish being played and landed after the signal to cease fishing shall be eligible for weighing if hooked before finish klaxon sounds at 17.30 hours.
- On return to the competition HQ, all competitors must report to the Weigh-In-Stewards(s) by 18.30
Anglers are advised to enter early to avoid disappointment. Entry on the day may not be possible.
£30 – Adult
Fly size – the hooks shall be a single hook, i.e. no double or treble hooks.
Competitors may fish up to 3 flies per cast, 3 hook points, no snake flies
Every competitor will keep his catch separate from that of any other competitor.
NIL RETURNS MUST BE RECORDED.
The championship prizes will be determined by the catch of each competitor. Any Brown trout and coarse fish will not be eligible and must be returned.
