Tidefest special - SUP taster sessions

London

Join us for a Paddleboarding taster session at the Tidefest foreshore festival. Tidefest is an annual celebration of the River Thames and all it has to offer so there will be lots of other activities and entertainment for you to enjoy before and after your taster session.

This stand up paddleboard session is suitable for beginners and adults of all abilities and ages. These sessions are also open to Children aged 11+.

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

You will need to be able to swim and be confident in the water. Certain level of flexibility and ability to get up to standing from kneeling is required for learning to paddleboard.

You'll be sharing your instructor/s, but you'll be sure to meet some interesting people to add to the experience. The session will start with a safety briefing and some land-based training before heading out on the water for a short guided tour. You'll be able to ask for technique advice and tips along the way. Don't be shy!

Weather conditions

Whilst we endeavour to carry out our SUP sessions, minimum numbers, instructor availability and weather conditions (If it is very windy or there is torrential rain meaning poor visibility) may mean we have to reschedule your lesson. We will always contact you to advise you as soon as we are able to discuss the options with you.

What to bring

No specialist clothing is required. In warm weather, ordinary gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt/sweatshirt), with old sandals or trainers you don't mind getting wet. Or you can get cheap neoprene wet shoes from most large supermarkets. No bare feet, footwear is required at all our SUP locations.

Always bring a towel and a change of clothes just in case you take a little dip during the SUP lesson.

Physical requirements

You do not need to be a proficient swimmer, but should be comfortable about falling into water while wearing a buoyancy aid.

A certain level of flexibility and ability to get up to standing from kneeling is required for learning to paddleboard.

You will need to shower / wash thoroughly after the session if you have fallen in or been splashed and need to ensure any open cuts are covered.

We have taken people with physical and mental disabilities out on the water however please contact us before booking as we may need to take you out privately to ensure you receive the coach's full attention.

We will also need to know of any recent injuries prior to the session.

Itinerary

The session will start with some land-based training at Kew Bridge, before heading out on the river for a short trip in the surrounding area. We will either bepaddling up to Olivers Island or Brentford Ait depending on the tide.
