Welcome to Get on Board 2019, which this year takes place on Friday 21st June 2019 and runs from Kew Bridge to Richmond.
Please note, you are booking to take part in this event, but you must bring your own board, paddle and buoyancy aid on the day.
The main aim of Get on Board 2019 is to highlight the problem of plastic pollution in our waterways. But it’s also about building on the success of last year and creating a great community event involving residents, businesses, workers and charities both on the water and on the towpath.
No specialist clothing is required. In warm weather, ordinary gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt/sweatshirt), with old sandals or trainers you don't mind getting wet. Or you can get cheap neoprene wet shoes from most large supermarkets. No bare feet please, footwear is required.
Please don't forget sun protection!
You may also want to bring a small dry bag for spare waterproof/warm clothing, money, any medications you may need and your phone in a waterproof pouch. If you are worried about losing sunglasses please use a sunglasses strap!
Important, please note: Buoyancy aids are compulsory for Get on Board and on all Active360 sessions. Waist leashes are only to used by coaches and very experienced paddlers. Ankle and knee leashes are not permitted on any of our sessions.
You do not need to be a proficient swimmer, but should be comfortable with falling into water while wearing a buoyancy aid.
A certain level of flexibility and ability to get up to standing from kneeling is required for learning to paddleboard.
We will also need to know of any recent injuries prior to the session.
You will need to shower / wash thoroughly after the session if you have fallen in or been splashed, and need to ensure that any open cuts are covered.
