  • Description

    Candidates should have a basic knowledge of SUP ideally have a BSUPA “Ready To Ride Card”. Instructors will be expected to demonstrate; short paddle stroke, slow and fast, and recovery stroke. Instructor candidates will give lectures and coach other students during the course. Instructors will  be assessed throughout the course –paddles skills, safety, group control and general SUP knowledge. There is an exam and paddle test on the water. The courses are divided up between the classroom and on the water. We cover site assessment, teaching psychology, weather, tides, rescue techniques and teaching drills. We talk through equipment so when you leave the course you will be fully loaded with SUP knowledge .


    Requirements
    1. Current member of BSUPA
    2. RYA Powerboat Level 2 (Inland only option available if Powerboat certificate is not required)
    3. Minimum age 18
    4. Valid First Aid qualification
    5. Riding ability, competent on a range of boards – be able to demo-short paddle strokes, step back and reverse paddle turns- board 360s body 360s foot and paddle steering, basics push turns and paddle boarding in reverse
    6. Minimum 40 hours SUP experience before course
    7. Shadow teaching will be required before certificates are issued
    8. Students without any previous water sports teaching experience or qualifications will be required to ghost qualified BSUPA instructors before certificates are issued.
    What to bring

    Meals

    Participants should bring a packed lunch, you are welcome to use the fridge and microwave at the centre. Alternatively, lunch can be purchased from nearby shops and restaurants.

    Refreshments

    Hot drinks and water are available from the Centre.

    Valuables

    We do have a small safe onsite that can hold phones and car keys, however we suggest leaving expensive valuables at home.

    Clothing List

    We will provide all specialist equipment such as buoyancy aids, wetsuits and waterproofs.

    We advise you bring:

    1. Closed toe footwear
    2. Warm layers would be useful such as a fleece or jumper. It can be much cooler on the water.
    3. Woolly hat / Sun hat
    4. Change of clothes - other than the ones you will wear afloat
    5. Towel, Sun Glasses & security strap, sun screen.
