RYA Powerboat Level 2

Complete your Royal Yachting Association Powerboat Level 2 course on Southampton Water and the Solent with the team at Southampton Water Activities Centre.

What is the course all about?

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed and collision regulations. This course also works on your launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring and leaving and coming alongside.

What will be my ability after the course?

You'll be a self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of your own limitations and those of craft.

What boats will I learn in?

We're proud to deliver our Powerboat Level 2 courses in our Ribeye 7.8m and Valiant 6.2m RIBs and our courses operate within the River Itchen, River Test, River Hamble, Southampton Water and The Solent.

What certification will I receive?

We'll issue an RYA Powerboat Level 2 Coastal Certificate upon successful completion of the course. You will need to provide a current Passport Photo of yourself, please bring this with you on day 1 of the course.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, we are offering COVID Secure activities to the public.

To ensure that we can provide a safe environment for all participants and our staff, we are implementing the following procedures;

  1. We ask that you not attend if you, or anyone in the household, are showing symptoms of COVID-19.
  2. We will coordinate all activities so you will join your group straight away after sign in.
  3. We will ask all participants to wash their hands upon arrival, in between activity sessions and prior to eating.
  4. We will offer activities that do not require high physical support / physical contact.
  5. We will be deep cleaning twice daily as a minimum standard.


What to bring

Meals & Refreshments

Participants should bring a packed lunch. Alternatively, lunch can be purchased from nearby shops and restaurants.

Hot drinks and water are available from the Centre.

Valuables

We suggest leaving expensive valuables at home or in the car.

Clothing

What’s included?

  1. Wetsuit
  2. Buoyancy Aid
  3. Spray Top
  4. Helmet

What you need to bring:

  1. Closed-toe shoes (essential)
  2. Swimwear for under wetsuit
  3. Towel
  4. Sun cream
  5. Any of your own sailing kit you might own that you would want to wear

Please bring a Passport photo of yourself.



Requirements

All participants must be aged 12+.

There are no pre-requirements for this course.



Itinerary

The itinerary for the day will vary depending on your instructor and the weather conditions, however will usually include:

09:00 – Arrive at SWAC to sign in for your course and meet your instructor

09:30 – Sessions start

12:30 to 13:30 – Break for lunch

13:30 – Afternoon sessions commence

16:00 – Finish sessions afloat and de-rig

16:15 – Debrief and get changed

17:00 – Depart

Cancellations

Full refund if cancelled 21 days prior to the commencement date

If cancelling a booking more than 21 days prior to the activity commencement date, alternative dates, course credit or a refund can be offered. For some cancellations an administration fee may be charged. Cancellations within 21 days are charged at the full rate and non-refundable.

Cancellation of any booking must be made in writing. For cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice, please contact the venue direct by telephone. Please familiarise yourself with our full booking Terms and Conditions by clicking here.
