RYA Start Racing - Youth


Start racing will develop and provide you with basic skills needed to enter a race and understand the simple techniques, sequences and rules.

What to bring

Please arrive ready to get on the water

Shoes: Wear some shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. If you have wetsuit shoes, these are perfect, but if not, a pair of old trainers will be fine. Please don’t wear flip-flops, sandals or other open toed shoes and please avoid hard soled shoes or wellingtons. No crocs.

Clothing: It’s best to bring a good range of clothing so that you can layer up appropriately for the weather. Even on a warm day, once the wind gets up it can feel a bit cold. Expect to get wet, so it’s advisable to bring a towel and some spare clothes. There are changing rooms and showers if needed.

Waterproofs: If you have waterproof tops or trousers it’s good to bring them along. We have some spray tops you can use if needed.

Glasses: If you wear glasses it’s best to have something a cord or elastic to hold them to your head.

Buoyancy aids and safety equipment:  we have buoyancy aids and you can chose to wear a helmet you can discuss this with your instructor on the day 

Sun: Please bring suncream and a hat, even if it doesn’t seem that sunny on the day.

Food: Please bring a packed lunch.


Sailors must be 8+ and stage 3 sailing certificate

Cancellations, reschduling and refund

We do not provide any cancellation insurance cover, personal accident or personal liability insurance cover, nor do we accept any responsibility for any items lost or stolen whilst attending the course.

Please note that photographs may be taken during activities. If highlighted on the registration form, then photos will not be taken. Photos will marketing, training and accreditation purposes.

In making this booking you are agreeing to involve the participant(s) in watersports activities where the participant may get wet and be involved in physically challenging activities.

The participant(s) must

·Be a minimum age of eight years old

·Be water confident

·Comply with all members of staff

·Demonstrate suitable behaviour towards staff and others

·Be willing where possible to assist with the handling of equipment

·Be willing to mix with groups of varying ages and abilities

Whilst being physically fit is a benefit, it is not a must. All participants should consult a doctor prior to booking if they have any concerns and discuss any additional support needs with centre staff before taking part in any activity.

Weather conditions may vary however the centres activities do take place in all-weather conditions except thunder and lightning or I there is ice on the lake. If activities need to change at short notice an alternative shall be provided.

Please note participation in any course/ activity / session at the centre does not mean a guaranteed pass in the relevant award.

Bookings can only be transferred to a different date if sufficient notice is given and will be subject to availability.

Cancellations must be in writing and any refunds given will be on the following basis:

·The fee cannot be refunded for any reason once the course has started

·If less than four weeks’ notice – No refund, rearranged subject to availability

·Between four-eight weeks’ notice – 25% refund or rearranged subject to availability.

·More than eight weeks’ notice – Full refund or rearranged subject to availability
