  • Description

The Salt Marsh from Brancaster to Brancaster Staithe is an incredibly special and unique environment. Whether you are a first time visitor or a regular, the marshes and vast network of creeks are always presenting something new to behold. Our ‘Tidal Salt Marsh SUP Tour’ will introduce you to this remarkable sanctuary. With all our tours work work within the ever changing tides to ensure we have plenty of water in the creeks; hence why our tour times are always changing. We ask that you are prompt with your arrival so that we can make the most of each tide. There are a few routes we like to navigate including; the rose gardens on Scolt Head, the Scout Hut of Scolt Head, the beach huts and a few others. Our guides will elect the best route depending on the tides and conditions.

    Requirements

Participants must be able to swim 50m unaided, have previous Paddle boarding experience & confident paddling in moderate choppy conditions. Under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who will have sole responsible for their safety and welfare for the duration of the tour. All participates must be 14 years and over.

With all our tours we work within the tide, we aim to go out on the tide and come back in on the tide - doing so means the water quite literally takes us out and brings us back! However, there will be times where you will be instructed to paddle quickly against the tide/ wind and a good level of upper body strength and fitness is required for this.

    What to bring

We suggest that you bring with you swimwear for the warmer months, a wetsuit for the cooler months and footwear (Wetsuit booties, Water shoes or old trainers) and a towel.

During the summer remember to bring and use sun cream & something to drink - a bottle of water can be stored on the front of the paddle board under the bungie straps.

If you need to wear glasses or sunglasses, we recommend you bring with you & use a floating retaining strap.

We don't advise you bringing a phone or camera with you for obvious reason unless it is waterproof, in a waterproof bag and is secured to yourself.

All equipment issued to participants will be cleaned and disinfected prior to participants usage, as per Covid 19 guidelines

    Itinerary

We start our session on land with a safety briefing and quick run through the equipment followed by a chat about the route that we will be taking. There are a few routes we like to navigate. Your instructor will select the best route for the tide and conditions. Most of our tours take place on Spring tides, which are large in size and generally very calm water conditions and peaceful.

After the briefing we’ll take a short walk, carrying the boards to the Staithe where we’ll launch. Once on the water we’ll paddle out with the incoming tide, navigating around the moored boats, through creeks and the salt marsh.

Depending on which route is selected there might be a point where we have to get off and pick up the boards and walk with them across the marshes for a short distance to gain access to another creek system.

When we arrive at the destination there is plenty of time to explore, swim and enjoy any snacks you've bought with you.

After the tide has turned, we will then jump back on the boards and follow the route which then gently takes us back to our starting point with the outgoing tide where we'll give the board a scrub down and wash at HQ.

We don't advise you bringing a phone or camera with you for obvious reason unless it is waterproof, in a waterproof bag and is secured to yourself. Our instructors will try to take a few photos of the group.
