    GoPaddle.ie Level 2 Skills Progression course is a one day, follow-on, from the Learn to Kayak course.

    Date: 10th Sept. Times: 10:00am - 4:00pm

    *Save €15 if you have already attended a GoPaddle.ie Learn to Kayak course or are a Kayak Academy Member.

    Our experienced and knowledgeable kayak instructors will guide you through all the skills and techniques needed to achieve your Canoeing Ireland Level 2 Kayak skills award.

    All specialist equipment is provided, you just need old runners, togs and a towel.

    The course is run using Sit in Kayaks.

    Canoeing Ireland Level 2 Kayak Skills assessment included.

    **All courses are run by qualified Canoeing Ireland Instructors**

    Graduates of this course are eligible to join our Kayak Academy and are welcome to attend out weekly whitewater River Trips.

    We provide:

    1. Kayak and Paddle 
    2. Wetsuit
    3. Buoyancy Aid
    4. Helmet
    5. Spraydeck
    6. Fully qualified Canoeing Ireland Kayak Instructor 




    Requirements

    To attend this course, you will have either:

    Have attended our two day Learn to Kayak course

    OR

    Be comfortable paddling and capsizing a Sit in Kayak with a spraydeck on.

    Minimum age 17 yrs.

    You should be comfortable in the water and be able to swim with the help of a buoyancy aid.

    What to bring
    1. wetsuit if you have one, if not one can be provided free of charge.
    2. something to wear under the wetsuit, ie swimming togs or shorts and T-shirt
    3. towel
    4. old runners that will get wet
    5. any relevant medication, eg inhalers etc...
    6. packed lunch and a warm drink for lunch.
    7. something warm to wear over the wetsuit at lunch time plus a warm hat.

    *some students find a nose plug and swimming goggles useful.

    Itinerary

    We will build on the skills you currently have and add in extras like:

    1. T rescue - be able to right your kayak, while still in it using the front of another paddlers kayak.
    2. X rescue (as a swimmer)
    3. X rescue (as a rescuer with assistance)
    4. Simple tow (without equipment)
    5. Knowledge of (can talk through) a tow using equipment.

    Our experienced instructors will cover the following Theory, so that you can:

    1. List the basic safety rules of canoeing.
    2. Describe how to contact the emergency services.
    3. Outline weather and environmental factors that affect a kayaking session including being able to identify the following: General weather outlook, wind direction and speed, air temperature and water conditions for inland water or coastal water.
    4. List the aspects of good group management and identify, explain, and give examples of the CLAP concept of group management.
    5. List the most important factors to trip planning
