Join us on Thursday evenings as we switch our lights on and head out on the water for a tour of Salford Quays by night. Put on your neon, bring you glow sticks and head torches as we paddle under the city lights. It really is quite a spectacular place to paddle at night!

Stand Up Paddlboards and Kayaks are 1 person crafts

Due to the distance we hope to travel around the Quays and the need to stay together as a group due to the dark nights, these sessions are not recommended for complete beginners. To use a Paddleboard, you need to be able to stand up on a board or be able to comfortably paddle on your knees. If this isn’t you but want to participate, then we recommend using a Kayak or booking onto the Katakanu. You can also book on to one of our hire sessions for a practice first. Minimum age is 17 years old.

    What to bring:

    1. We provide buoyance aids that must be kept on at all times. We also provide helmets for anyone aged under the age of 17.
    2. We'll also provide the board/kayak and paddle.
    3. Wetsuits are strongly recommended and can be hired for £4 if you don’t have your own
    4. Waterproof / warm clothing if you’re not wearing a wetsuit, must be unrestrictive and not too heavy, tracksuit bottoms/leggings and hoodies & coats are ok but please bear in mind you may fall in.
    5. If you’re wearing a wetsuit you can wear coats/hoodies over it providing they’re not restrictive and you don’t mind them potentially getting wet.
    6. Warm layers including a hat and gloves!
    7. Shoes that can get wet (Must bring shoes)
    8. £1 coin for the lockers if you need to store anything inside the centre
    9. Glasses strap for anyone who wears glasses, just in case they fall off into the water
    10. Feel free to bring any lights / glows sticks or head torches.

We advise against taking any valuables out of the water in case you drop them in to the water. Whilst we do not recommend taking phone’s out, we know that people like to take pictures on the moonlight paddles, our team will try to take as many pictures as possible but if you do decide to take your phone out, please ensure you have it secured to you on a lanyard/waterproof pouch for example. We take no liability for any items lost or damaged.

    Pre-Requisites:

    1. Strictly adults only
    2. Prior paddling experience is necessary, especially for Stand Up Paddleboarding. Anyone who isn’t competent to Paddleboard will be asked to move to a Kayak or a KataKanu if there is space
    3. Basic fitness required, must be to the best of your knowledge, physically fit and well to take part in physical activity in/on cold, deep water
    4. Must be able to swim at least 200m

    When you arrive:

Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before the session to enable you to get ready and make sure we can set off on time

If you miss the start, you may not be able to access the session, this is because we take safety very seriously and all our staff on the night are required on the water with the full group

Check in at reception and you’ll be given a buoyance aid a few minutes before we start. If you need to, please feel free to use our changing rooms or toilets which are in the foyer as you arrive. Place any valuables or bags in the lockers if you need to (remember to bring a £1 coin as we don’t have change)

    Session & Rules:

    1. Once ready, we will head over to the water where you’ll be shown your boat and a paddle brief. It’s important to follow instructions and only enter when told to do so. Please do not go near the slip way as it is very slippy in parts.
    2. Our team will assist with getting everyone into boats and once ready, we’ll set off.
    3. The aim of this session is a relaxing / social paddle, so we’ll make our way around the docks taking in the sites and lights as they pass.
    4. Everyone must stay on the boat/craft they were given.
    5. Our staff will assist where needed and will be with you / in close proximity at all times, do not paddle off away from the group and follow instructions at all times.
    6. Do not stand up on the paddleboards near any walls.
    7. Please be respectful to all participants and staff, any foul language or abuse will not be tolerated, and you’ll be asked to leave without a refund.
    8. Anyone found to be jeopardising their safety or the safety of others will be asked to leave, and no refunds will be given.
    9. We’ll arrive back at the start a few minutes before the end to safely exit the boats/crafts, please wait in your boat until you’re told to leave.
    10. Please zip & hang buoyance aids up on the rail provided in the centre.
    11. Changing rooms and warm showers are available after each session.

Whilst we aim to stay as dry as possible on this session, there is a chance you may fall into cold water. In the event of someone falling in, please be assured that our team are well prepared and trained to deal with these situations, everyone will be wearing a buoyance aid which keeps you afloat, try not to panic, relax, and float until you calm down before you get back on to the craft. We will give you a safety brief at the start of each session with advice on what to do If you fall in.  Our team will be on hand to assist at all times.

Kayaks offer more stability than Stand Up Paddleboards so please only Paddleboard If you are comfortable with paddling.

Please ensure you follow instructions at all times and only enter the slipway / pontoons when advised to.
