    This is the first stage on the RYA learn to sail pathway, suitable for complete beginners aged 8yrs+, join us for two days of fun on the water this summer and learn a new sport along the way!


    RYA Youth Learn to Sail Stage 1: Launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing. After this course you should be able to steer and understand basic principles.


    Key learning points: 


    1. Rigging the boat with assistance
    2. Launch the dinghy from the shore with instruction
    3. Steering the boat while sailing and being towed.
    4. Can turn the boat (go about)
    5. How the basic sail controls work and how to stop
    6. How to paddle or row the boat.
    7. What to wear
    8. What the parts of the boat are called.
    9. Where the wind is coming from.
    Requirements
    1. Be able to swim 25m
    2. Aged 8yrs+


    What to bring
    1. Shorts/T-shirt to go under a wetsuit. Feel free to bring your own wetsuit if you have one. Changing rooms are only open after activity.
    2. Shoes that can get wet (no open toe - flip flops/sliders, must be old trainers or wetboots/shoes)
    3. Snacks & lunch
    4. Drinks
    5. Suncream
    6. Towel
    7. Bag for wet kit
    Itinerary
    1. Arrive at the centre and meet your instructor
    2. This course is a mixture of on the water activity with a few theory elements.
    3. You'll stop for lunch around 12:30pm for 30 minutes and then resume activity.
    4. 15:45 you'll be off the water ready to get changed to leave by 16:00
