This specifically designed course is aimed at swimmers and coaches/teachers looking to further their knowledge of the sea environment, risk assessment and how to rescue a swimmer in trouble.

A great bolt on CPD, filled with useful and practical information!

Course content:

The course is split into two parts:

1.Theory over 2 Zoom sessions, 7:30pm start:

-Session 1: 2 hours covering an introduction to the beach/ocean environment, gaining knowledge and awareness of weather, tides, swell, rip currents, wildlife and understanding their effect on swimming. After a short break, we'll talk about how to deal with a rescue.

-Session 2: 1.5 hour session looking at hazard awareness, analytical risk assessments, their use and how to complete them.

2.Practical session, 9:30am-4:30pm, held at Challaborough Beach, TQ7 4HU, South Devon.

We put into practice the theory learnt from the Zoom sessions: assessing the area, recognising potential risks and putting mitigation actions in place if necessary.

Learning rescue skills with and without equipment: throw rope and rescue tube.

This will give you increased confidence that should a situation arise during a session, you will be better equipped to deal with someone in trouble in the water as well as exploring available safety and rescue equipment for your swim session. We'll also explore other safety and rescue equipment.

Price includes access to the Coast to Coast online learning platform to prepare the theory and practical.

We recommend refreshing these skills after 24 months and offer a one day follow up course (£95) whereby we put you through scenarios to build confidence, iron out any problems caused by skill fade as well as helping to improve technique and build on what you learnt from your initial course.
