Description
This is a mountain navigation course with 6 spaces, open to the public.
This course is designed to help develop understanding of mountain navigation, looking at the features of the map, contours and compasses.
This course will take a progressive approach to navigation.
We start with some theory (1 hour max)
Here we will have a discussion around:
- Planning Routes (resources, websites etc)
- Choosing a map
- Reading the map
- Understanding scales and symbols
- Grid References
On the hill we will teach you how to:
- Orientate the map
- 4 D's of navigation
- Measure distances
- Timings
- Navigate via linear features such as paths, walls and streams
- Develop hand railing techniques
- Basic contours & interpretation
- Introduction to the compass and its features
- Compass bearings
Throughout the day we will look into different techniques and navigate around the mountainside. Experienced navigation tutor & mountain leader, map, compass and all training and teaching aids are included in the cost for this course.
The price of this day is inclusive of:
- A qualified Mountain Leader (or higher award) affiliated with Mountain Training Association
