Description
This is a half day canyoning experience.
Church Beck is based in Coniston.
This session is up to 3 hours long.
We will meet you on location and provide you with all the kit needed for jumping, abseiling, sliding and scrambling in the gorge. After a 20 minute walk we will enter the Ghyll.
We will enter the gorge in the upper sections, close to the Coppermines Valley.
Here we will descend the watercourse.
The descent will be via a series of lowers and abseils down waterfalls and through the cascades of the beck. These abseil will be managed by your instructor. Each waterfall will be rigged on site and you will be safely lowered through the water and into the pools below. Your instructor will be using internationally recognised canyoning techniques affiliated with the ICOPro canyoning organisation.
This is an aquatic canyon, and you will be fully immersed in the water all the way through the trip.
After a few waterfalls abseils, the canyon will narrow and we will head down into the slot section of the gorge. Here we have a series of jumps that need to be undertaken in order to progress down.
The jumps encountered here are varying in difficulty and height and a roped lower can always be taken if you'd prefer.
The jumping in this canyon is some of the most exciting we offer, they are not especially high but feel committing to undertake.
All jumping technique will be demonstrated and explained on the trip by the instructor.
From here, we encounter the infamous slide of Church Beck - sitting on the rock slide you will slide down and into the deep pool below.
There are more lowers/abseils lower down and some small jumps allow progress down to the main waterfall before exiting the canyon.
For those still wanting adventure, we can enter the gorge for a second run of the jumps and slides.
