Flyers pre-assessment

Our Wednesday evening Flyers Sessions are a breeding ground for developing talented Ski Racers. After having only been in operation at the Llandudno slope for around a year and a half, we have started to have our first Welsh Squad selections this year. And that's in spite of the various Covid restrictions and slope closures,

To attend the Flyers Sessions then attendees need to be pre-assessed and approved to ensure they are of a suitable standard.

Under normal circumstances we usually host a pre-assessment at least once a year, but this is our first opportunity to be able to run a pre-assessment.

The Session takes the format of assessing particular skills, aimed at 8-16 years old with 1-4 years skiing experience. (NB, we have lowered the age limit this year as we’re aware there may be or are younger skiers who would like to try out).

The tests generally are:

Pole jumpers ( 8m spacing between poles on the ground. Ski in a straight line, and jump over them)

Outside ski turns

Straight run to side slip in straight line

Free ski using ski sticks, making GS turns.

And we run them through a simple Slalom Course as well.

We score them on a chart, and from that process we are able to advise whether they are ready to be able to attend the Wednesday evening Flyers sessions. It's not a problem if they are not quite ready, or if they find it's not for them, we still have other sessions they can attend, including our Sunday Sessions where we run courses and coaching, but for a wider age group and range of abilities.

But if your kids want to have a go and try out at this session and you feel they have near enough the right skills, then they will be more than welcome to attend.

Either way they'll likely still learn a lot, and the emphasis is always on fun and enjoyment.

Please do read the following important information.
