    Learn to sail with Southampton Water Activities Centre. Join the team on a weekend-long introduction to Keelboat sailing. Although no prior experience is required, we recommend building experience in Dinghies before embarking on your Keelboat Journey!


    The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Start Sailing Course is a fun introduction to Keelboat sailing that gives you the knowledge and skills to rig, launch, recover and sail under instruction.

    5. Waterproofs tops and trousers are also available – just in case the British weather is determined to get you wet!


    What to bring


    Meals & Refreshments

    Participants should bring a packed lunch. Alternatively, lunch can be purchased from nearby shops and restaurants.

    Hot drinks and water are available from the Centre.

    Valuables

    We suggest leaving expensive valuables at home or in the car.

    2. Buoyancy Aid/Life Jacket

    What you need to bring:

    1. Closed-toe shoes (essential)
    2. Towel
    3. Sun cream
    4. Any of your own sailing kit you might own that you would want to wear


    Requirements


    This course is ideal for complete beginners and requires no prerequisites, however an awareness of the basics of dinghy sailing will improve your learning dramatically.


    Itinerary


    The itinerary for the day will vary depending on your instructor and the weather conditions, however will usually include:

    09:00 – Arrive at SWAC to sign in for your course and meet your instructor

    09:30 – Sessions start

    12:30 to 13:30 – Break for lunch

    13:30 – Afternoon sessions commence

    16:00 – Finish sessions afloat and de-rig

    16:15 – Debrief and get changed

    17:00 – Depart
