Start Racing

Southampton
sailing - Up to 6 people

Description

Join us at SWAC for a week of fun and exciting introduction to dinghy racing. SWAC is known for our emphasis on having fun while learning new skills, in the heart of Southampton.

What is it?

Our Active Sail courses are designed around the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. Start Racing is one of the five advanced modules in the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. Children learn the fundamentals of dinghy racing through a range of short exercises and practice races. Students learn about; start line tactics, mark rounding, maintaining boat speed around the course, rules and strategy. After the course children will have the confidence to enter club level racing at their local sailing club or with us at the centre. We recognise that children learn differently, and the course is designed to help sailors progress using a skill-based approach. Our focus is to develop confidence and ability to sail a small single-handed dinghy. By Friday, weather permitting, we embark on a day sail for an offsite picnic before returning to base.

We teach at a ratio of 6:1 meaning children are well supervised and receive specific feedback to make sure they enjoy mastering the sport. Children can expect to sail a boat on their own, or with a friend.
