Ability levels: Complete Beginner | Improver | Low-Level Intermediate
A full 2hr morning/afternoon surf lesson for individuals or groups.
These are 'open-group' (non-private) sessions for complete beginners looking for an introduction to surfing, or for practiced novices and low-level intermediates looking to boost their progression.
Requirements
- All participants must be able to swim at least 25 metres and should, under no circumstances, be under the influence of any alcohol, drugs or medication at the time of the lesson which may adversely affect their physical capabilities.
- All participants suffering any physical or medical conditions, illnesses or allergies, including any prescribed medications, should make us aware of any such conditions or requirements prior to the event.
- No-one should participate in any surfing lesson if they are pregnant or suffering from a heart condition.
What to bring
- 'Slim-fit'/Lycra swimwear, to be worn underneath the wetsuit (i.e., no 'baggy' shorts)
- Towel
CHILDREN <12YRS: 'Rock-pooling'/neoprene (soft rubber-soled) shoes or wetsuit boots are recommended for protection against weever fish. This applies to summertime only (May-Oct), as we provide boots during winter.
Itinerary
- Meet & greet your selected instructor
- Allocation of equipment, wetsuit and surfboard at the surf school
- A full 2 hour supervised surfing lesson
- Assessment of ocean conditions
- Beach/surf safety introduction
- Introduction to equipment and safe handling techniques
- Introduction to prone surfing
- Transitioning to feet, accelerating and stopping/falling safely
- Applying newly-developed skills to changing conditions and/or more progressive equipment
- Session debrief; skill assessment and goal-setting using the iAM Bands ability scheme
