Sundowner Kayak Adventure

Hickling, Norfolk
kayak - Up to 16 people

Description

SUNDOWNER KAYAK PADDLE...

This is an amazing opportunity to get out on the water a little later in the day and to experience the stunning beauty and nature of the Broads from a different and the totally magical perspective of this place at twilight!

Our highly experienced guides will meet you at our launch point with your kayak and all other equipment needed, ready for to be transported out on this amazing trip - and this is where the real adventure starts!

Using our super stable and easy to paddle, rudder controlled WaveSport Horizon double kayaks, your guided adventure to Horsey Mere will continue out on the water where there will be every opportunity for you to see/hear Marsh Harrier, Bearded Tits, Reed Buntings and Warblers, Avocets and perhaps Bittern, Otter, Water Voles and more. Of course we can't 'pre-book nature' - but in our experience there's always something wonderful to see...!

The trip will take you though some of the surrounding rivers then out on to Horsey Mere, its back waters and into a few of it's hidden gems which have a true 'Swallows & Amazons' vibe and definitely a feeling of getting away from it all!

This trip is wonderful at any time of year in terms of peace, tranquility and the bonus of not too much in the way of other river traffic to to where we'll take you!

Your time on the water will last around 2.5 hours (with around 15 mins either end for paperwork and safety brief etc...) before heading back to the same launch point where you'll alight from your craft and ponder on the wonder that you'll have just experienced!

A truly wonderful experience and a must for visitors to the area and locals alike...This really is a special place!

What to bring

  1. Parking is anywhere in the car park at NOA HQ and Pleasure Boat Inn pub

  1. Toilet and changing facilities are available at the public toilet facility located on the left upon arrival in the car park.

  1. It’s advisable to bring layers and a waterproof/windproof jacket (if you have the same in trousers then bring them also) – it can get a little chilly on the water (in winter months especially or if you’re taking it quite leisurely) - also is advisable to bring a pair of trainers to paddle in (walking type boots may be too stiff).

  1. If you don't have any of the above then a change of clothes for when you get back just in case a little water gets inside the boat.

  1. Small dry sacks can be provided for keys, phones etc and the boats have stowage compartments for bags or spare clothing – we can also provide you with ‘pogies’ which are a windproof mitt that fits over the paddle in order to keep your hands a little warmer and also to protect them from any wind-chill – this really only applies in the colder months but there if you need them.

  1. Time on the water to last approx 2 hours, plus you’ll need at least 15/20 mins before and after for set up, safety briefing and return.

  1. Please note that we recommend that you don’t bring a camera unless it’s of a waterproof variety (waterproof phones or GoPro type of action camera in waterproof housing etc should be fine but don’t drop them!) In fact due to the darkness you’ll not be able to photograph anything anyway – that’s why these trips are so special – the images are stored in your memory - not digitally!

  1. Your guide will however be equipped with a waterproof camera and will happily take photos of before and after of you enjoying your adventure.

Physical requirements

Is there a minimum age requirement to participate on this trip?

We operate a minimum age of 8 years old for these trips - this is due to the length of the trip, potential weather conditions and also equipment levels. Please note that each minor (under 16) booked on to a trip must be accompanied by the allocated responsible adult the same boat - so, 1:1 minor/adult.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes, due to the aquatic nature of kayaking we ask that you can confidently swim a minimum of 50m unaided
