  • Description

This is your opportunity to get out onto the water and experience one of the best parts of the Norfolk Broads - only this time at night and gazing at the plethora of stars hanging above the shimmering water!

Please note that due to the current COVID-19 socail distancing restrictions, we can only accept two people from the same household to share a double boat. All of our craft for these sessions are 'double cockpit'.

These trips are targeted around the cycle of a full moon and will create long lasting memories to remember for years to come!

Our highly experienced guides will meet you at our launch point with your kayak and all other equipment needed, ready for to be transported out on this quite amazing and starry-eyed trip - this is where the real magic starts!

Using our super stable, rudder controlled and easy to paddle Horizon two seater kayaks, your guided adventure on Hickling Broad will commence out on to the still waters of Hickling Broad where there will be every opportunity for you to gaze at the plethora of stars and the reflection of the moon on the water.

Of course we can't 'pre-book a clear night' - but in our view there's always something wonderful to see & feel - especially as Norfolk Outdoor Adventures are one of the very few to offer this kind of experience in the country, and certainly the only one in the Broads National Park!

    Requirements

Is there a minimum age requirement to participate on this trip?

We operate a minimum age of 14 years old for these trips - this is due to the length of the trip, potential weather conditions and also equipment levels. Please note that each minor (under 16) booked on to a trip must be accompanied by the allocated responsible adult the same boat - so, 1:1 minor/adult.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes, due to the aquatic nature of kayaking we ask that you can confidently swim a minimum of 50m unaided and during the current COVID-19 social distancing rules, you must have the ability to re-enter the cockpit of the boat should it capsize.

    What to bring
    1. Parking is anywhere in the car park at NOA HQ and Pleasure Boat Inn pub

    1. Toilet and changing facilities are available at the public toilet facility located on the left upon arrival in the car park.

    1. It’s advisable to bring layers and a waterproof/windproof jacket (if you have the same in trousers then bring them also) – it can get a little chilly on the water (in winter months especially or if you’re taking it quite leisurely) - also is advisable to bring a pair of trainers to paddle in (walking type boots may be too stiff).

    1. If you don't have any of the above then a change of clothes for when you get back just in case a little water gets inside the boat.

    1. Small dry sacks can be provided for keys, phones etc and the boats have stowage compartments for bags or spare clothing – we can also provide you with ‘pogies’ which are a windproof mitt that fits over the paddle in order to keep your hands a little warmer and also to protect them from any wind-chill – this really only applies in the colder months but there if you need them.

    1. Time on the water to last approx 2 hours, plus you’ll need at least 15/20 mins before and after for set up, safety briefing and return.

    1. Please note that we recommend that you don’t bring a camera unless it’s of a waterproof variety (waterproof phones or GoPro type of action camera in waterproof housing etc should be fine but don’t drop them!) In fact due to the darkness you’ll not be able to photograph anything anyway – that’s why these trips are so special – the images are stored in your memory - not digitally!

    1. Your guide will however be equipped with a waterproof camera and will happily take photos of before and after of you enjoying your adventure.
