    The NOA Skill & Safety Kayak Workshop is particually suited to both beginner kayakers or paddlers with some expereince alike, and is a perfect opportunity to learn or brush up on not only the physical side to kayaking - but also to learn other skills and knowlage to enable you to become a safe and skillful kayaker when out on your own trips and adventures.


    This workshop has limited spaces per session to enable the most interaction time with the instructor.


    This is both a practical and theory workshop which takes place both on and off the water, ensuring that all of the following topics are covered:

    1. Equipment - Boat types/paddles, saftey checks, correct fitting of boats and bouyancy aids
    2. Paddle Planning - Weather, basic navigation principles, safety considerations, enviromental considerations.
    3. Basic self/Group Rescue - Safe capsize, helping a swimming paddler, empting a full boat, re-entering capsized craft.
    4. Paddling Equipment - Correct paddling clothing, safety kit, communications, food/drink.
    5. Paddle Skills - Correct use of the paddle, developing efficient paddle teqniques and bracing strokes.

    Price includes boat, paddle, bouyancy aids, spray decks and all other related equipment.

    £10 refund off booking if own boat and equipment is used (please advise in advance of booking if wanting to bring own equipment).


    Requirements

    Is there a minimum age requirement to participate on this workshop?


    We operate a minimum age of 16 years old for this workshop.


    Please note that minors under 16 will need advance consent by thier parent or gaurdian to undertake the workshop.


    Do I need to be able to swim?


    Yes, due to the aquatic nature of kayaking we ask that you can confidently swim a minimum of 50m unaided fully clothed.


    What to bring
    1. Parking is anywhere in the car park at NOA HQ and Pleasure Boat Inn pub


    1. Toilets and changing facilities are available.


    1. It’s advisable to bring layers and a waterproof/windproof cag or jacket (if you have the same in trousers then bring them also). You may also want to bring a wetsuit with you if you have one as you will be getting into the water for some of the self-rescue scenarios.


    1. Time on the water to last approx 4 hours and then they'll be time for tea breaks and the chance to have a chat as a group with your instructor
