  • Description

This is an amazing opportunity to get out on the water and to expereince the stunning beauty and nature of Horsey Mere and beyond from a wonderfully different and totally magical perspective!

After meeting at our base and having your safety briefing, your guided adventure will start on the vast Hickling Broad (which is amazing in itself) where you'll then continue out on a journey to visit Horsey Mere (once the playground of the young Horatio Nelson) and then onto the spooky and some folk say 'kissed by the devil' Brograve Mill!

During the adventure there will be every opportunity for you to see/hear Marsh Harrier, Bearded Tits, Reed Buntings and Warblers, Avocets, Common Crane and perhaps Bittern, Otter, Water Voles and more. Of course we can't 'pre-book nature' - but in our expereince there's always something wonderful to see...!

The trip will take you though some of the sourrounding rivers via Hickling, Horsey and their backwaters via a few of it's hidden gems which have a true 'Swallows & Amazons' vibe and definitely a feeling of getting away from it all!

Your time on the water will last around 2.5 hours (with around 15 mins either end for safety brief & kit set up etc...) before heading back to the same launch point where you'll alight from your craft and ponder on the wonder that you'll have just expereinced!

A truly wonderful expereince and a must for visitors to the area and locals alike...this really is a special place!

    Adventure Levels Explained

Please note that during the current COVID-19 outbreak NOA and it's staff will implement a SAFE / CLEAN / HAPPY invironment and will expect all customers to adhere to Social Distancing rules of that time.

Our rules will be availabe to read on the chalkboard located outside of the NOA office.

Of course this is subject to change at any time.

    Requirements

Is there a minimum age requirement to participate on this trip?

We operate a minimum age of 8 years old for these trips - this is due to the length of the trip, potential weather conditions and also equipment levels. Please note that each minor (under 16) booked on to a trip must be accompanied by the allocated responsible adult the same boat - so, 1:1 minor/adult.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes, due to the aquatic nature of kayaking we ask that you can confidently swim a minimum of 50m unaided

    What to bring
    1. Parking is anywhere in the car park at NOA HQ and Pleasure Boat Inn pub

    1. Please note that as of the current time there are no toilet or changing facilities - neither public or private due to COVID-19 (and sadly vandalism)

    1. It’s advisable to bring layers and a waterproof/windproof jacket (if you have the same in trousers then bring them also) – it can get a little chilly on the water (in winter months especially or if you’re taking it quite leisurely) - also is advisable to bring a pair of trainers to paddle in (walking type boots may be too stiff).

    1. If you don't have any of the above then a change of clothes for when you get back just in case a little water gets inside the boat.

    1. Small dry sacks can be provided for keys, phones etc and the boats have stowage compartments for bags or spare clothing – we can also provide you with ‘pogies’ which are a windproof mitt that fits over the paddle in order to keep your hands a little warmer and also to protect them from any wind-chill – this really only applies in the colder months but there if you need them.

    1. Time on the water to last approx 3 hours, plus you’ll need at least 15/20 mins before and after for set up, safety briefing and return.

    1. Please note that we recommend that you don’t bring a camera unless it’s of a waterproof variety (waterproof phones or GoPro type of action camera in waterproof housing etc should be fine but don’t drop them!) In fact due to the darkness you’ll not be able to photograph anything anyway – that’s why these trips are so special – the images are stored in your memory - not digitally!

    1. Your guide will however be equipped with a waterproof camera and will happily take photos of before and after of you enjoying your adventure.
