  • Description

This is a night never to be forgotten as you'll tour the vast Hickling Broad in your kayak, at night with whilst hunting down the ghost of The Grey Lady who'll be out, hidden in the middle of the Broad....then when found you'll plead with her to tell you the tail of her gruesome demise all those years ago whilst sipping a nice warm drink - which will hopefully give you some heart warming comfort..!

"Come out, come out but only if you dare the still waters of Hickling will try not to scare!

Hickling at Halloween is a sight to be seen and tales of the past will be told so try not to scream!

Out in your kayak you’ll tour the broad with the spooks and the ghosts that cannot be ignored

With the water so still a chill you will feel - not from the air but breath of ghosts that we’re sure will thrill

So come out on the water for a ghoulish good time and prepare yourself for a night of spooky tails and scary rhyme!"

    Requirements

Is there a minimum age requirement to participate on this trip?

We operate a minimum age of 14 years old for these trips - this is due to the length of the trip, potential weather conditions and also equipment levels. Please note that each minor (under 16) booked on to a trip must be accompanied by the allocated responsible adult the same boat - so, 1:1 minor/adult.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes, due to the aquatic nature of kayaking we ask that you can confidently swim a minimum of 50m unaided

    What to bring
    1. Parking is anywhere in the car park at NOA HQ and Pleasure Boat Inn pub

    1. Toilet and changing facilities are available at the public toilet facility located on the left upon arrival in the car park.

    1. It’s advisable to bring layers and a waterproof/windproof jacket (if you have the same in trousers then bring them also) – it can get a little chilly on the water (in winter months especially or if you’re taking it quite leisurely) - also is advisable to bring a pair of trainers to paddle in (walking type boots may be too stiff).

    1. If you don't have any of the above then a change of clothes for when you get back just in case a little water gets inside the boat.

    1. Small dry sacks can be provided for keys, phones etc and the boats have stowage compartments for bags or spare clothing – we can also provide you with ‘pogies’ which are a windproof mitt that fits over the paddle in order to keep your hands a little warmer and also to protect them from any wind-chill – this really only applies in the colder months but there if you need them.

    1. Time on the water to last approx 2 hours, plus you’ll need at least 15/20 mins before and after for set up, safety briefing and return.

    1. Please note that we recommend that you don’t bring a camera unless it’s of a waterproof variety (waterproof phones or GoPro type of action camera in waterproof housing etc should be fine but don’t drop them!) In fact due to the darkness you’ll not be able to photograph anything anyway – that’s why these trips are so special – the images are stored in your memory - not digitally!

    1. Your guide will however be equipped with a waterproof camera and will happily take photos of before and after of you enjoying your evening.
