Intro to Climbing

Description

This course is designed to introduce novice climbers to the wolrd of climbing in the UK. There will be discussions around planning, preparation and safety at the crag and we will look into crag etiquette, ethics, access and impact of the climber and what the mountaineering councils and boards do for the sport. 

Climbing equipment and its importance will be discussed; from harnesses, helmets and footwear to the hardware and rope types available. 

Technical skills covered include; wearing a harness, tying in, belaying, abseiling and different uses of climbing equipment. Climbing skills such as movement and climbing styles will be introduced.

Itinerary

Meet on location

Introductions, briefings and climbing talks

Kit issue and rucksack packing

Crag arrival - safety at the crag, harness fitting and gear discussion

Undertake climbs, learn and develop on routes - gear retrieval and removal, belaying skills, basic knots and rope management and movement skills.

Cancellation Policy

CANCELLATION

In the unlikely event we have to cancel, we will offer a full refund if an alternate date can't be offered.

Winter course conditions: It may be necessary to change the outline of the courses to offer general mountaineering/mountain skills programmes with part refunds.

We can also issue vouchers to be used on other events or sessions with us. 

Should you wish to cancel, we are flexible where possible and can possibly re-arrange dates for a more convenient time. If the cancellation is within 30 days then we reserve the right to issue a part refund and take a deposit of 50% for administration fees. If cancellation is within 14 days of the activity we reserve the right to retain the full amount.


COVID-19

If the activity cannot go ahead due to COVID regulations we will be able to offer a part refund. We would hold the right to retain a booking fee of £40 to cover administration costs; the remaining balance will be refunded.
