    1 day course - An Emergency First Aider should always be available in the workplace to administer basic first aid. This course will give candidates the knowledge and confidence to do this. It is fully accredited by the HSE and therefore conforms and meets all standards of the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulation 1981. No previous first aid experience is required.

    COURSE DURATION

    The course consists of 6 hours contact teaching time. Usually run over one 6-hour session although this is flexible to suit your needs. A maximum of 12 students are allowed and must be aged a minimum of 16 years or above. Larger groups can be catered for, but the ratio must not exceed 12 students per instructor.

    COURSE CONTENT

    1. Aims of first aid – dealing with an emergency
    2. Cardio pulmonary resuscitation – adult, child and baby
    3. Priorities of treatment
    4. Face shields – recognition and treatment of regurgitation
    5. Choking – adult, child and baby
    6. Unconscious patient – recovery position and dealing with a patient with a seizure (fitting)
    7. Bleeding and shock – internal bleeding, cross infection and minor injuries
    8. Burns and scalds
    9. Recording incidents and first aid actions
