Essex
sup - Up to 25 people

Description

We are delighted to be working with Essex Waterways Limited to bring you our beloved annual 'City to the Sea' paddle from Chelmsford to Heybridge Basin, along the length of the glorious Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation, approximately 14 miles/22km. Such a great thing to do with our BSUPA Guides helping and encouraging you every step of the way.

Adult Costs: Using own board: HUB member £15, non-HUB member £35. Using our board HUB member £30, non-HUB member £55. 11yr-17yr olds can only be booked onto this tour to accompany their parents or legal guardians with our express prior permission - call us on 07507 094233 ASAP to discuss, thank you.

(Please note that £5 of your fee will be given to Essex Waterways Limited (part of the IWA who own and manage the waterway). They are supporting us with this event and we are keen to contribute, as always, to the continued running of this beautiful navigation. Mahalo!

We colourcode all of our SUP tours and this is a solid BLUE tour. It is longer and more challenging than our usual blue tours and is suitable for more experienced paddlers. The tour is approximately 22km long with lots of lifting and portaging (carrying) your board and bags in and out at locks. It takes most of the day and can be very tiring.

As such you must have completed at least one of our green tour with us prior to joining this City to the Sea tour and be capable of paddling and portaging the whole 22km, although we will help you!

We meet at Springfield Basin at 7am with a briefing at 7:30am and plan to all be launched by 8am. Will stop for early brunch half way at the Old Stables Tea Rooms at Paper Mill Lock and then paddle to Heybridge Basin, for a well deserved pint in the pub! You can expect to arrive at Heybridge from 2:30pm-4pm depending on your speed. You are responsible for arranging transport of yourself and your board/kit (unless you are using a Frangipani SUP board, which you can book here through optional extras) to the start point and from the finish point. You will be expected to portage your own board at all of the locks, bring and carry: a dry-bag with all your own stuff, your own phone in a water-proof pouch, a water bottle, any medications, money for lunch/pub etc. and wear/bring suitable clothing and spares. We will have a support vehicle on route to carry extra or heavier items for us. Once you have booked your place you will be sent all of the finer planning details via email.

What to bring

Please bring with you a small dry bag. You will need to carry a bottle of water, spare waterproof clothing, a snack bar, money for the café, any medications you may need and your phone in a waterproof pouch. If it’s sunny please bring an old baseball hat and sun cream. Paddling footwear must be worn. Spare kit can be carried on the support can.

Physical requirements

You must be able to swim 25m clothed. You must be able to portage (lift & carry) your board, paddle and dry bag in and out at the start point & end point and at each of the 11 locks en route. This paddle is approximately 14 miles/22km long and will take several hours. You must have a reasonable level of fitness and stamina to complete it.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel and want a refund, please do so within 48 hours of the start time of your booking.

Although we hope you don't need to cancel your booking, you can do so at any time up to 48 hours prior the start time of the booked SUP activity and receive a full refund.
