Paddle Practise Trifarm

sup - Up to 20 people

Hi! These DIY 'Paddle Practise' sessions (for adults) at the beautiful Trifarm swimming lake in Boreham are designed to give you access to lake paddling for relaxation, exercise and/or training in the fresh air, using your OWN SUP board and all your own kit and winter clothing. We don’t provide this, thanks. The lake is water tested and has a life guard. (£17pp, HUB Member £14.50pp) Paid up members of the Frangipani SUP HUB 2021 please apply your discount at checkout. Thanks.

Please note that these sessions are not for beginners. To participate, you must be a competent stand up paddler, who can get back onto their SUP board unaided and have your BSUPA Level 1 'Ready to Ride' certificate, or equivalent. If you don't have this BSUPA Level 1 'Ready to Ride' certificate, but do have your own SUP board, and consider yourself competent to stand up paddle in these sessions, then please email us to discuss it before making your booking, thanks.

On the day our BSUPA qualified Instructors (in yellow tops) will be on hand on and off the water to keep a safety eye on you as you use the lake. They will provide safety information before you launch and will be happy to give you advice on paddling technique and kit etc., please just ask for it!

Free parking on the site included. Hot/cold drinks bacon butties, hot soup and delicious home made cakes will be available for purchase at the Trifarm office.

Also, please feel free to take part in our fun "Mince Pie Challenge 2021". Just record the number of kilometres you paddle at the November and December 2021 Paddle Practise sessions, tell us/show us what you have paddled when you come off the water each time, and we'll keep a record. Fun prizes will be given out on December 12th Paddle Practise for the most kilometres paddled!

There are quite a few important safety rules and procedures that we all need to follow, thanks:

1 - You must be a competent swimmer and able to swim at least 25m clothed.

2 - You must be competent stand up paddler, who can get back onto their SUP board unaided and have your BSUPA Level 1 'Ready to Ride' certificate, or equivalent, to participate.

3 - Any Government Covid-19 rules must be followed by everyone, although you must accept that in the unlikely event of an emergency, we and possibly others may break social distancing rules to assist you.

4 - You must please bring and wear paddling clothing appropriate for the weather and water temperature, (such as an autumn/winter wetsuit or drysuit) plus a well-fitting Personal Buoyancy Aid and paddling footwear, both of which are mandatory. Please note that we will not let you launch if we consider you to be underdressed for the temperature/conditions or if you don't have the appropriate equipment! You should also bring warm dry clothes to change into. The changing rooms are currently closed. Please check the Trifarm Facebook page for current information about the site and the conditions.

5 - Before you leave home, please cover any cuts and grazes with strong waterproof plasters.

6 - Please do not bring any valuables to the site as we can't secure them (money, jewellery, posh watches, electronics etc.)

7 - The changing rooms are closed so you will need to get ready in your car. There is a port-a-loo on site with hand sanitisers. When ready you can walk your kit down to the flag at the launch point at the lake's edge. Please watch out for uneven, slippery ground and look out for vehicles and horse-riders on the farm track. At the flag, please check-in with our Instructor before launching. He/she will check your name off the list, provide safety information and invite you to launch. Please do not launch anywhere else other than at the flag. Please launch from and return to the flag on your knees and also paddle on your knees when you are within 2 board's length from the lake edges, which are shallow. Please do not leave kit lying around at the launch flag. Thank you.

8 - You must have third party insurance for your own SUP board (you could join BSUPA to obtain insurance.)

9 - Please don't jump or dive off your SUP board as you could seriously injure yourself!

10 - You may bring spectators with you onto the site in your car. They can walk around the lake using the gravel footpath. However, any spectator aged 17 years or younger must be supervised closely at all times by their parent or legal guardian whilst on the site and must be kept well away from the lake edges, staying on the gravel footpath. Sorry but a parent/legal guardian can not paddle themselves and leave their child unsupervised in their van/car or at the side of the lake. Dogs are welcome but must kept on their leads at all times.

Please complete the very important set of safety questions as part of this booking process.

Thank you for your support and understanding to make this activity fun and safe for us all. Any questions or problems, please email

What to bring

Please bring all your SUP board, paddle, fin, coiled leash and all related SUP kit.

Please wear water sports clothing appropriate for the weather and water conditions (such as an autumn/winter wetsuit or drysuit), plus a well fitting Personal Buoyancy Aid (PBA) and paddling shoes/boots.

Arrive at 10am and launch as soon as the last swimmer gets out of the water. Gates shut 1.30pm.

If you need to cancel and want a refund, please give us more than 48 hours notice from the start time of your booked session. (Or 7 days for the BSUPA Level 1 Instructor course.)

Although we hope you don't need to cancel your booking, you can do so at any time up to 48 hours prior the start time of the booked SUP activity and receive a full refund. If you cancel within 48 hours of the start time of the booked SUP activity, or you are very late for or do not attend the booked SUP activity (i.e. a ‘no-show’) you will not receive a refund. If you are booking on the BSUPA Level 1 Instructor course, less than 7 full day’s notice of a cancellation will mean that you won’t get a refund and this clause supersedes any minimum cancellation notice notified elsewhere in the booking process and/or in the terms and conditions. Thanks for your understanding.
