    BSUPA Level 1 Instructor Course - This awesome course runs over two days from 0900-1700hrs at Home Water Lake, Chigborough, Essex. Course cost is £250pp including manual and completion certificate. Free tea & coffee.

    Prerequisites (which apply to all BSUPA Level 1 Instructor courses, not just those run by us):

    1. Current paid up member of BSUPA
    2. Minimum age 18
    3. Able to swim 25m clothed
    4. Valid First Aid qualification (This can be a one-day face to face emergency First Aid Course and it can, if necessary, be obtained after you have completed this course but your Instructor number and qualification certificate can not be issued until the First Aid qualification is complete and proof of it has been provided to BSUPA.)
    5. Riding ability: competent on a range of boards, be able to demo-short paddle strokes, step back turns, reverse paddle turns, board 360s, body 360s, foot and paddle steering, basic push turns, paddle boarding in reverse and speed test
    6. Minimum 40 hours SUP experience before course
    7. A Personal Action/ Development Plan will be issued at the end of the course which will require full completion including shadow teaching on BSUPA ‘Ready to Ride’ courses at BSUPA recognised schools. Evidence of Personal Action/ Development Plan completion must be submitted to BSUPA HQ before an Instructor number and qualification certificate are issued. The qualification certificate lasts for 3 years, as long as the First Aid qualification is still current.
    8. Participants signing onto this BSUPA Level 1 Instructor course understand and agree that after the successful completion of the course and once the Personal/Development Plan activities have all been successfully completed, evidenced and accepted by BSUPA Head Office (and an Instructor qualification certificate/number is issued) the individual is able to teach BSUPA Ready to Ride Level 1 courses to a maximum of 6 students on a suitable area of water within the infrastructure of a BSUPA recognised school and that to take people on any kind of SUP tour, the BSUPA Instructor Level 2 qualification is required.

    This course will be conducted in a wooden lodge and in/on a lake, so please bring all necessary warm clothes for classroom, paddling and water rescue activities. Please bring your lunch, snacks and a mug. :)

    Sorry but if you give us less than 7 full clear days notice of a cancellation we cannot refund you. This requirement supersedes any minimum cancellation notice notified elsewhere in the booking process and/or in the terms and conditions.

    Please note that we need a minimum of 4 people booked on to the course to run it properly and in the unlikely event that we need to postpone/cancel it for this or any other reason, we will contact you as soon as possible and offer new dates or full refunds.

    Requirements

    Able to swim 25m clothed. Able to pull the weight of an unconscious casualty out of the water using the board flipping technique.

    What to bring

    Paddling clothes. For water rescue elements, full seasonal appropriate wetsuit/drysuit. Neoprene shoes/boots, buoyancy aid, suitable SUP board, paddle, leash & fin. Dry bag with any medicines you need to take on the water. Water. Packed lunch and snacks for both days. Own tea/coffee cup. Warm classroom clothes. Pen.
