SUP Lesson

sup - Up to 9 people

Description

Want to work your core muscles, meet like-minded friends and master the basics of stand up paddleboarding?

Our small group lessons are a fun-packed way to take to the water and learn a new skill.

Under the wing of our friendly, expert instructors you will get to grips with paddling techniques on a micro-adventure along the River Thames.

During the session you’ll learn about different types of stand up paddleboards (SUPs), water safety and the rules of the river, launching and landing, paddling stances, efficient forward paddling and turning.

Once completed you may join any of our SUP trips and become a SUP Member to take advantage of reduced price sessions.

What to bring

It is a good idea to bring a re-useable bottle of drinking water to take with you.

Spare clothes and a towel are also recommended as is a change of footwear because your feet are very likely to get wet. These can be left in our vehicle at your own risk.

Most people wear board shorts, swimming shorts, running tights or leggings and a t-shirt. We have long sleeved rash vests for you to wear and provide a PFD (personal floatation device) for each of you.

You must have footwear with you that you don’t mind getting wet. Flip flops are great and wetsuit shoes can also work.

If it is particularly sunny, it is recommended that you wear sun-cream and a hat. Sunglasses are also good. Be aware that can they sink quickly... so do not bring your best pair.

Please note that there are no toilets or changing facilities at River Lane, but there is woodland at River Lane that some people choose to change in.

The nearest toilet is at the Petersham Nurseries if they are open.

Physical requirements

You are going to be paddling in beautifully stable stand up paddle boards so it is unlikely that you will end up in the water....although it can happen!

We provide PFD's (personal floatation devices) that will keep you buoyant in the water if you do end up in it. We can then help you back onto stand up paddle board.

If you are a weak or non swimmer, please do let your instructor know so that they are aware of it.

You will start the session paddling on your knees before transitioning to standing, so you will need a degree of flexibility to do this.
