Moonlit SUP Wild Camp

camp - Up to 12 people

Unplug. Reconnect. Recharge.

Leave your phone and your every day life behind for 24 hours and retreat into nature, when you join us on the Moonlit SUP Wild Camp.

Meet us in Hartlake Road Bridge, Tonbridge for 10.30am, pack your kit into dry bags, step onto a paddle board and away we go!

Peacefully paddling along the Medway, you will have time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and fully immerse yourself in nature. Spotting animals. Soaking up the bank side scenery. Chatting to your fellow paddlers.

Once we have found the right spot, we will set up camp, collect wood and build a fire. Before we settle down around the fire there will be time to go swimming or paddle some more and, of course to enjoy a lovely meal.

Once it gets dark, why not go out exploring again for a moonlit paddle?

After sleeping under the stars, greet the day with a grounding yoga routine and some breath work before we paddle back to where it all started!

General notes

Back of Beyond Adventures will provide you with a 10 litre and a 100 litre dry bags for your personal kit.

No dry bag is 100% dry, so we recommend that you put your personal items, particularly your sleeping bag, in smaller plastic bags that can be place into our dry bags.

You will be sleeping under bashas / tarps, these are shelters that can be configured in a number of ways. We also have groundheets for you to use.

Here is some basic information regarding some of the items you may require.

Sleeping Bags

Synthetic filled bags are easier to clean than natural filling.

Zips can be a source of cold if no baffle is fitted.

Comfortable trainers or sandals that you don’t mind getting wet are the most suitable for this environment and this type of canoeing, but bring a change of footwear for the riverbank.

Warm Wear

A number of layers are warmer than one thick one and the warmth can be regulated more easily. Do not forget your hands and head.

Torch / Lighting

Do not pack your torch with batteries fitted (or at the bottom of your kit) as it could easily get accidentally turned on and you will arrive at the camp with flat batteries.

Our preference is for red or green lights, or filters for your torch, to preserve night vision.

Let us know if you do not have any of the items suggested…

…we may be able to help!

Most people wear what they would wear for sports (shorts, running tights or leggings and a t-shirt) or what they might wear for a walk in the country (not denim). We provide a PFD (personal floatation device) for each of you.

If it is particularly sunny, it is recommended that you wear sun-cream and a hat. Sunglasses are also good. Be aware that can they sink quickly... so do not bring your best pair.

If there is a chance of rain, then please bring your waterproof jackets etc.

You are going to be paddling in beautifully stable stand up paddle boards so it is unlikely that you will end up in the water....although it can happen!

We provide PFD's (personal floatation devices) that will keep you buoyant in the water if you do end up in it. We can then help you back onto stand up paddle board.

If you are a weak or non swimmer, please do let your instructor know so that they are aware of it.

You will start the session paddling on your knees before transitioning to standing, therefore, a degree of flexibility is needed to do this.
