Hampton Court to Richmond Expedition

Surrey
sup - Up to 6 people

Description

On this one way trip, you will be paddling on one of the most beautiful stretches of the Thames, initially upstream to Molesey Lock in order to get the best view of Hampton Court Palace, and after that downstream towards Thames Ditton, Surbiton, Kingston, Teddington and then on to Richmond.

We will meet you at Ditton Beach (equidistant from Hampton Court or Thames Ditton railway stations). After a safety briefing we will start on our one-way trip to Richmond. This is a fantastic point-to-point trip passing through town and countryside, and will include stops for a coffee and/or a bite to eat.

This trip is currently only open to those who have paddled with Active360 on the Thames previously.

You'll be sharing your instructor/s, but you'll be sure to meet some interesting people to add to the experience. The session will start with a safety briefing and some land-based training before heading out on the water for a guided tour. You'll be able to ask for technique advice and tips along the way. Don't be shy!

Cancellation and Bad Weather

Occasionally, due to bad weather (high winds or poor visibility), instructor availability or low booking numbers, we may need to cancel your paddleboard session. On these occasions we will attempt to reschedule your lesson, and if this is not an option, we will offer you a credit voucher or full refund. We will always endeavour to contact you as soon as we are able to discuss the options with you.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your session, you will need to give us a minimum of 48 hours notice. Please email us on [email protected] or call us on 0203 488 1785.

What to bring

As this is a one-way trip , it is advisable to bring a dry-bag that you can keep your belongings in for the trip. We recommend a spare waterproof/warm clothing, money, any medications you may need and your phone in a waterproof pouch.

No specialist clothing is required, but no jeans please, as cotton gets very cold when wet. In warm weather, ordinary quick drying gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt/fleece). In colder weather (November - March), wearing a wetsuit would be advisable. We have wetsuits available if requested in advance, or bring your own.

We usually paddle barefoot on these sessions, but please bring some water shoes, or old sandals, flip flops or trainers that you don't mind getting wet to take with you for when we stop during the session.

If it’s sunny please bring an old baseball hat and sun cream.

Buoyancy aids are provided and are compulsory on all Active360 sessions. Waist leashes are only used by coaches and very experienced paddlers. Ankle and knee leashes are not permitted on any of our sessions.

Physical requirements

You do not need to be a proficient swimmer, but should be comfortable with falling into water while wearing a buoyancy aid.

A certain level of flexibility and ability to get up to standing from kneeling is required for learning to paddleboard.

We will also need to know of any recent injuries prior to the session.

You will need to shower / wash thoroughly after the session if you have fallen in or been splashed, and need to ensure that any open cuts are covered. Note that we do not have shower facilities at Richmond.

We do take people with physical and mental disabilities out on the water, however please contact us before booking as you may need a private session to ensure that you receive the coach's full attention.

Itinerary

Our session will start with a safety briefing and some land-based training on the riverbank. This typically takes 15-20 minutes depending on group size.

We will then head out onto the river, firstly upstream to Molesey Lock in order to get the best view of Hampton Court Palace, and after that we turn downstream towards Thames Ditton, Surbiton, Kingston, Teddington and then on to Richmond.

*The exact length of time taken to reach Richmond will depend on the river conditions on the day.
