Richmond Paddleboard Hire

Greater London
sup - Up to 6 people

Description

Paddleboard Hire in Richmond. Rent a board and equipment for either 2 or 3hrs, and paddle on one of the most idyllic stretches of the Thames.

Important: Experienced paddlers only, no beginners, sorry!

If you, and all people in your group, do not have solid prior paddleboarding experience (including being able to competently stand-up, steer and stop the board), you will not be able to hire a board from us. Instead we suggest you book one of our 1:1 or small group coached sessions, where you will learn the correct paddling techniques, as well as how to safely navigate on the river.

What do you provide?

We provide boards, paddles, buoyancy aids and a brief introduction to the rules of the river. Upgrade options are available for paddles and boards. Note that all paddlers must wear a buoyancy aid whilst hiring boards.

Where can I paddle?

Paddlers agree that they will not go downstream of Twickenham Bridge, or upstream of Teddington Lock, and will follow the rules of the river as explained to them by Active360 Richmond staff on site

How long will I be paddling for?

We aim to get you on the water as quickly as possible after your session start time, but please note that signing on, being kitted out and the safety briefing takes around 20 minutes. So on a two hour session you can expect to be paddling for about 1 hour 40 minutes.

Can I bring children?

Children over 10 can paddle, but anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied on the water by a parent/legal guardian.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, but please contact us first to arrange, as we only allow dogs on some of our boards. There will be an additional charge of £10 to cover wear and tear.

Anything else I need to know?

You will be responsible for the safe and timely return (in good condition) of all equipment rented to you, and understand that you will be charged for any damage or loss of equipment, or for late return of equipment.

Cancellation and Bad Weather

Book with confidence - we offer a 100% money back guarantee in the event that the session cannot run due to Covid-19 restrictions. Please see our Cancellation Policy for details on cancelling or rescheduling your session for other reasons.

Occasionally, due to bad weather (high winds or poor visibility), instructor availability or low booking numbers, we may need to cancel your paddleboard session. On these occasions we will attempt to reschedule your lesson, and if this is not an option, we will offer you a credit voucher or full refund. We will always endeavour to contact you as soon as we are able to discuss the options with you.

What to bring

Please arrive wearing the clothes you intend to paddle in as we have very limited space to get changed.

We have a safe storage space for your bags and valuables. Toilets are only available in local cafes or pubs, with pretty limited access at the moment, so please plan ahead!

Also, please bring your own hand-sanitiser if possible, and we ask you to observe the social distancing requirements at all times.

No specialist clothing is required, but no jeans or cotton please, as cotton gets very cold when wet. In warm weather, swimwear or ordinary quick drying gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt/fleece).

We usually paddle barefoot on these sessions, but you could wear water shoes, or old sandals, flip flops or trainers if you'd prefer to wear shoes.

If it’s sunny please bring an old baseball hat and sun cream.

In colder weather (November - March), wearing a wetsuit would be advisable. We have wetsuits available if requested in advance, or bring your own. Also, please bring extra layers, a towel and a change of clothes just in case you take a little dip during the lesson.

You may also want to bring a small dry bag for spare waterproof/warm clothing, money, any medications you may need and your phone in a waterproof pouch. If you are worried about losing sunglasses please use a sunglasses strap!

Buoyancy aids are provided and are compulsory on all Active360 sessions. Waist leashes are only used by coaches and very experienced paddlers. Ankle and knee leashes are unsafe on moving waters, and are not permitted.

Requirements

In light of the the current Covid-19 restrictions, we will require you to keep a safe distance from each other and from your coach during both the safety briefing and the on-water session. Please do not attend the session if you, or anyone you have been in contact with, are showing any symptoms of Covid-19.

We will ask you to register your details when you arrive to comply with Covid track and trace requirements.

You, and all paddlers in your group, need to be confident paddlers, and need good prior paddleboarding experience. If that is not the case, please book a lesson with us first.

You do not need to be a proficient swimmer, but should be comfortable with falling into water while wearing a buoyancy aid.

We will also need to know of any recent injuries prior to the session.

You will need to shower / wash thoroughly after the session if you have fallen in or been splashed, and need to ensure that any open cuts are covered. Note that we do not have shower or toilet facilities at Richmond.

Itinerary

First, we'll ask you to sign our hire agreement, and we'll then get you kitted out with a buoyancy aid and paddle. You will need to pay attention to our safety briefing and instructions on river navigation and the paddling area. This typically takes 15-20 minutes depending on group size.

You can then head out onto the river to enjoy your session!
