Description

Kayak Rental - Richmond

Rent a kayak from Richmond Bridge, and paddle on one of the most idyllic stretches of the Thames.

We provide boats, paddles, buoyancy aids and a brief introduction to the rules of the river, and then will launch you to enjoy a two-hour paddle on the river.

We require that anyone hiring a kayak understands the risks involved, has good experience of kayaking before, and can safely turn and stop the boat. You must also display awareness of how to self-rescue should you fall in to the water.

Children must be accompanied on the water by a parent/legal guardian.

Paddlers agree that they will not go downstream of Twickenham Bridge, or upstream of Teddington Lock, and will follow the rules of the river as explained to them by Active360 Richmond staff on site. All paddlers must wear a buoyancy aid whilst hiring kayaks. You will be responsible for the safe return (in good condition) of all equipment rented to you, and understand that you will be charged for any damage or loss of equipment.

Can I rent the kayak for longer?

Yes by special arrangement only. You can add extra time on the booking form, and we will then confirm if that is possible, based on tide times and other bookings that day.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, by prior arrangement only - please contact us first on info@active360richmond.co.uk. Unfortunately we don't have dog lifejackets.

Covid-safety?

These sessions are designed to allow everyone to keep at least 2m apart from each other at all times. Note that all equipment is disinfected between sessions.

Cancellation and Bad Weather

Book with confidence - we offer a 100% money back guarantee in the event that the session cannot run due to Covid-19 restrictions. Please see our Cancellation Policy for details on cancelling or rescheduling your session for other reasons.

We don't cancel sessions due to rain - in fact it's lovely on the river in the rain! However, very occasionally, due to extreme weather (high winds, lightning or poor visibility), we may need to cancel your paddleboard session. On these occasions we will contact you and attempt to reschedule your lesson, and if this is not an option, we will offer you a credit voucher or full refund. If you don't hear from us, the session is going ahead!

What to bring

Please arrive wearing the clothes you intend to paddle in as we have very limited space to get changed.

We have a safe storage space for your bags and valuables. Toilets are only available in local cafes or pubs, with pretty limited access at the moment, so please plan ahead!

No specialist clothing is required, but no jeans or cotton please, as cotton gets very cold when wet. In warm weather, swimwear or ordinary quick drying gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt/fleece).

We usually paddle barefoot on these sessions, but you could wear water shoes, or old sandals, flip flops or trainers if you'd prefer to wear shoes. We have water shoes for sale for £10 if you need them.

If it’s sunny please bring an old baseball hat and sun cream.

In colder weather (November - March), wearing a wetsuit would be advisable. We have wetsuits available if requested in advance, or bring your own. Also, please bring extra layers, a towel and a change of clothes just in case you take a little dip during the lesson.

You may also want to bring a small dry bag for spare waterproof/warm clothing, money, any medications you may need and your phone in a waterproof pouch. If you are worried about losing sunglasses please use a sunglasses strap, or buy one from us for £5.

Buoyancy aids are provided and are compulsory on all Active360 sessions.

Requirements

Please do not attend the session if you, or anyone you have been in contact with, are showing any symptoms of Covid-19.

You, and all paddlers in your group, need to be confident paddlers, and need good prior paddleboarding experience. If that is not the case, please book a lesson with us first.

You do not need to be a proficient swimmer, but should be comfortable with falling into water while wearing a buoyancy aid.

We will also need to know of any recent injuries prior to the session.

You will need to shower / wash thoroughly after the session if you have fallen in or been splashed, and need to ensure that any open cuts are covered. Note that we do not have shower or toilet facilities at Richmond.

Itinerary

First, we'll ask you to sign our hire agreement, and we'll then get you kitted out with a buoyancy aid and paddle. You will need to pay attention to our safety briefing and instructions on river navigation and the paddling area. This typically takes 15-20 minutes depending on group size.

You can then head out onto the river to enjoy your session!

Cancellations

Our refund / cancellation policy

You will be entitled to a refund under the following circumstances:

  1. If your booking is cancelled at least a full 5 days prior to the activity start time you will be entitled to a full refund. You may reschedule your booking at no cost.

  3. If you cancel your booking between 24 hours a 48 hours prior to the activity start time you will not be entitled to a refund, and we charge a 25% admin fee for rescheduling your booking.
  4. If you cancel your booking less than 24 hours prior to the activity start time you will not be entitled to a refund, and you will not be able to reschedule your booking.
  5. If we cancel your booking at any time, you will be entitled to a full refund.

Note that if the conditions on the day aren’t ideal, but the activity still takes place, you will not be eligible for a refund. We never cancel for rain, so if wet weather is likely please bring a waterproof jacket. If really extreme weather is forecast we will contact you to rearrange your session or refund you. If you don't hear from us, the session is going ahead!

If you are diagnosed with Covid-19, or advised by NHS Test and Trace to self-isolate, please advise us as soon as possible. Our normal cancellation terms and timings will still apply. If you only advise us within 24 hours of your booking we will only consider rescheduling your session if you can provide adequate proof that you have been asked to isolate or have had a positive Covid test. Our 25% admin fee will still apply in this case. Apologies if this sounds harsh, but we are a small business and still have to pay our staff if you cancel at the last moment.

To cancel or reschedule please email us on info@active360richmond.co.uk or call us on 0203 488 1785.
