Description

Paddleboard Rental - Richmond

Rent a paddleboard (or kayak) from Richmond Bridge, and paddle on one of the most idyllic stretches of the Thames on one of our 2 hour rental sessions.

Important: Experienced paddlers only, no beginners, sorry!

If you, and all people in your group, do not have solid prior paddleboarding experience, then you will need to book one of our 1:1 or small group coached sessions before you can hire a board from us. You will preferably have had a paddleboard lesson from a recognised paddleboarding school. A quick go a couple of years ago on a beach in the Med doesn't count - as the Thames is a very different, and more hazardous environment!

We require that anyone hiring a board understands the risks involved, has good experience of paddleboarding before, and can safely stand-up, turn and stop the board. You must also display awareness of how to self-rescue should you fall off your board.

We provide boards, paddles, buoyancy aids and a brief introduction to the rules of the river. Upgrade options available for paddles and boards, and one or more of your party can have the option to swap a paddleboard for one of our sit-on top kayaks.

Children must be 13+ and be strong paddlers. They must be accompanied on the water throughout the session by a parent/legal guardian.

Paddlers agree that they will not go downstream of Twickenham Bridge, or upstream of Teddington Lock, and will follow the rules of the river as explained to them by Active360 Richmond staff on site. All paddlers must wear a buoyancy aid whilst hiring boards. You will be responsible for the safe return (in good condition) of all equipment rented to you, and understand that you will be charged for any damage or loss of equipment.

Can I rent the board for longer?

Yes by special arrangement only. You can add extra time on the booking form, and we will then confirm if that is possible, based on tide times and other bookings that day.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, by prior arrangement only - please contact us first on info@active360richmond.co.uk. Unfortunately we don't have dog lifejackets.

Cancellation and Bad Weather

Book with confidence - we offer a 100% money back guarantee in the event that the session cannot run due to Covid-19 restrictions. Please see our Cancellation Policy for details on cancelling or rescheduling your session for other reasons.

We don't cancel sessions due to rain - in fact it's lovely on the river in the rain! However, very occasionally, due to extreme weather (high winds, lightning or poor visibility), we may need to cancel your paddleboard session. On these occasions we will contact you and attempt to reschedule your lesson, and if this is not an option, we will offer you a credit voucher or full refund. If you don't hear from us, the session is going ahead!

What to bring

Please arrive wearing the clothes you intend to paddle in as we have very limited space to get changed.

We have a safe storage space for your bags and valuables. Toilets are only available in local cafes or pubs, so please plan ahead!

No specialist clothing is required, but no jeans or cotton please, as cotton gets very cold when wet. In warm weather, swimwear or ordinary quick drying gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt/fleece).

We usually paddle barefoot on these sessions, but you could wear water shoes, or old sandals, flip flops or trainers if you'd prefer to wear shoes. We have water shoes for sale for £10 if you need them.

If it’s sunny please bring an old baseball hat and sun cream.

In colder weather (November - March), wearing a wetsuit would be advisable. We have wetsuits available if requested in advance, or bring your own. Also, please bring extra layers, a towel and a change of clothes just in case you take a little dip during the lesson.

You may also want to bring a small dry bag for spare waterproof/warm clothing, money, any medications you may need and your phone in a waterproof pouch. If you are worried about losing sunglasses please use a sunglasses strap, or buy one from us for £5.

Buoyancy aids are provided and are compulsory on all Active360 sessions. Waist leashes are only used by coaches and very experienced paddlers. Ankle and knee leashes are not permitted on any of our sessions.

Requirements

Please do not attend the session if you, or anyone you have been in contact with, are showing any symptoms of Covid-19.

You, and all paddlers in your group, need to be confident paddlers, and need good prior paddleboarding experience. If that is not the case, please book a lesson with us first.

You do not need to be a proficient swimmer, but should be comfortable with falling into water while wearing a buoyancy aid.

We will also need to know of any recent injuries prior to the session.

You will need to shower / wash thoroughly after the session if you have fallen in or been splashed, and need to ensure that any open cuts are covered. Note that we do not have shower or toilet facilities at Richmond.

Itinerary

First, we'll ask you to sign our hire agreement, and we'll then get you kitted out with a buoyancy aid and paddle. You will need to pay attention to our safety briefing and instructions on river navigation and the paddling area. This typically takes 15-20 minutes depending on group size.

You can then head out onto the river to enjoy your session!

Cancellations

We never cancel for rain, so if wet weather is likely please bring a waterproof jacket. If really extreme weather is forecast we will contact you to rearrange your session or refund you. If you don't hear from us, the session is going ahead!

If you are diagnosed with Covid-19, or advised by NHS Test and Trace to self-isolate, please advise us as soon as possible. Our normal cancellation terms and timings will still apply. If you only advise us within 24 hours of your booking we will only consider rescheduling your session if you can provide adequate proof that you have been asked to isolate or have had a positive Covid test. Our 25% admin fee will still apply in this case. Apologies if this sounds harsh, but we are a small business and still have to pay our staff if you cancel at the last moment.

To cancel or reschedule please email us on info@active360richmond.co.uk or call us on 0203 488 1785.
