Fundraiser for London's Harbour Master

Richmond-upon-Thames
sup - Up to 24 people

Description

Join us this Friday evening on a paddle and pick trip fundraiser in aid of Mark Towans, the Port of London Authority Harbour Master. The weather forecast is fantastic!

You can read Mark's story here:

We will start with a short safety briefing before heading out on the water towards Isleworth and Kew Bridge, where we will join up with paddlers from our Kew Bridge location.

Along the way we will be collecting plastic waste from the river and shore. After a short break, while we wait for the tide to turn, we'll head back to Richmond, and should arrive by 9.30.

There is a £5 booking fee to reserve your place on this trip.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A MINIMUM DONATION TO MARK'S CAUSE OF £20. YOU CAN DONATE VIA THE LINK BELOW - AND PLEASE SEND US A SCREENSHOT OF YOUR DONATION TO info@active360richmond.co.uk

PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY!

What to bring

No specialist clothing is required, but no jeans or cotton please, as cotton gets very cold when wet. In warm weather, swimwear or ordinary quick drying gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt/fleece). If possible please arrive wearing the clothes you intend to paddle in.

We usually paddle barefoot, but on this trip please wear some water shoes, or old sandals, flip flops or trainers that you don't mind getting wet as we will stop during the session to pick up plastic from the foreshore.

If it’s sunny please bring an old baseball hat and sun cream.

Also, please bring extra layers, a towel and a change of clothes just in case you take a little dip during the lesson.

You may also want to bring a small dry bag for spare waterproof/warm clothing, money, any medications you may need and your phone in a waterproof pouch. If you are worried about losing sunglasses please use a sunglasses strap!

Buoyancy aids are provided and are compulsory on all Active360 sessions. Waist leashes are only used by coaches and very experienced paddlers. Ankle and knee leashes are not permitted on any of our sessions.

Requirements

In light of the the current Covid-19 restrictions, we will require you to keep a safe distance from each other and from your coach during both the safety briefing and the on-water session. Please do not attend the session if you, or anyone you have been in contact with, are showing any symptoms of Covid-19.

We will also need to know of any recent injuries prior to the session.

You will need to shower / wash thoroughly after the session if you have fallen in or been splashed, and need to ensure that any open cuts are covered. Note that we do not have shower facilities at Richmond.

Itinerary

Your session will start with a socially-distanced safety briefing and some land-based training on the riverbank or our pontoon near Richmond Bridge. This typically takes 15-20 minutes depending on group size.

We will then head out onto the river, downstream towards Isleworth, Kew Gardens and Chiswick, stopping along the way to pick up plastic waste.

*The distance actually covered will depend on conditions on the day.
