  • Description

We have adapted our sessions to adhere to social distancing guidelines and all equipment will be disinfected after each session.

Join us for a guided Canoe trip starting in Paddington Basin. We will learn the basics of manoeuvring the canoes in the Basin before heading out along the Grand Union canal. We will paddle through Little Venice, the Maida Hill tunnel and then up the Regents canal towards Camden Lock via London zoo.

This canoeing session is suitable for beginners and adults of all abilities and ages. The canoes are 2 or 3/4 seaters (3 adults or 4 if including children as the weight of 4 adults will make the canoe less stable).

PLEASE READ THE POST PURCHASE INFORMATION ON SUGGESTED CLOTHING - IT'S UNLIKELY YOU WILL GET VERY WET (WEATHER PERMITTING).

You are welcome to bring your own hot drinks and snacks (alcohol is allowed but please stick to one alcoholic drink per participant!) Hand gel will be provided on site but please bring your own if you would like to use in the canoe - for eating snacks etc.

You'll be sharing your instructor/s, but you'll be sure to meet some interesting people to add to the experience. The session will start with a safety briefing and some land-based training before heading out on the water for a guided tour. You'll be able to ask for technique advice and tips along the way. Don't be shy!

    Weather conditions

Whilst we endeavour to carry out our sessions, minimum numbers, instructor availability and weather conditions (If it is very windy or there is torrential rain meaning poor visibility) may mean we have to reschedule your lesson. We will always contact you to advise you as soon as we are able to discuss the options with you.

    Requirements

You will need to shower / wash hands thoroughly after the session if you have fallen in or been splashed and need to ensure any open cuts are covered.

We will also need to know of any recent injuries prior to the session.

    What to bring

Please where possible arrive 'ready to go' as under Cover-19 restrictions we are operating with restricted toilet/shower/changing facilities.

There is a pop up tent on site but it is shared.

PLEASE DRESS WARM! Windproof/Waterproof clothing is ideal! Avoid denim or cotton where possible (anything that can get heavy when wet and will not keep you warm). Thermals, fleeces/layers are great.

You are welcome to bring your own hot drinks and snacks (alcohol is allowed but please stick to one alcoholic drink per participant!) Hand gel will be provided on site but please bring your own if you would like to use in the canoe - for eating snacks etc.

    Itinerary

The session will start with some land-based training at our base in Paddington Basin, before getting onto water and piercing through the heart of London on the Grand Union Canal. We will pass through iconic London landmarks such as Little Venice. After stopping for a short break, we will return to base. You will have the opportunity to keep paddling during this break if preferred.

*How far we get depends upon the conditions on the day.
