Learn to sail on the beautiful Loch Ryan

Description

Following up from the RYA Dinghy Sailing Scheme, Level 1, you will continue to build your confidence and skills during Level 2. During the course, you will follow a step-by-step process and improve your sailing skills on all point of sail during the two days:

  1. Rigging
  2. Launching
  3. Building confidence sailing in all directions
  4. Capsize recovery
  5. Essential safety knowledge


Following the the RYA Dinghy Sailing Scheme, we will guide you through a step-by-step process. The course is a practical hands-on course, which provides you with a nationally recognized certificate on completion.


It is advised to have some previous sailing experience or an RYA Dinghy Sailing Scheme Level 1 certificate prior to joining the course.

You will be expected to be able to:

  1. Sail in all directions
  2. Have awareness of Launching and Recovering


If you are interested in sailing on a more regular basis, obtaining RYA Dinghy Sailing Scheme Level 2 – Basic Skills Certificate, gives you the opportunity to join the Loch Ryan Sailing Club as part of SWSA. (SWSA membership is required). The Loch Ryan Sailing Club organises regular Club sailing nights and mornings under supervision, which is a great way to exercise the sport.


At SWSA we believe that water sports are for everyone. You don’t need to have any experience, and we provide all the equipment, including wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets. Can’t swim? That doesn’t matter - your buoyancy aid will be keep you afloat and we will support and help you build confidence in the water.










Requirements

  1. Minimum age is 16
  2. No experience required



What to bring

We provide all of the equipment required to take part in the activity, however you will need:

  1. Swimwear for under the wetsuit
  2. Footwear - an old pair of trainers or water shoes (this is a MUST)
  3. A towel for afterwards.


As this is a full day course, you will need to bring a packed lunch, drink and snacks to keep you fuelled for the day. You will have access to drinking water if needed.



Itinerary

  1. Launching and recovery
  2. Sailing in all directions
  3. Turning around
  4. Steering and basic parts of the boat


Throughout the course, you will receive expert, personal feedback and coaching.


At the end of the course, you will receive the RYA Level 2 Certificate


Our instructors will give you advice on the next steps and progression options for sailing.
