Power Boat Instructor PRE ASSESSMENT

During the course you will have an opportunity to become familiar with our boat, operate in the same area as the assessment and practice the skills required.

Our instructor will coach you on any weak areas.

In the afternoon an RYA Trainer will assess that you can perform all of the RYA Powerboat Level 2 manoeuvres to a good standard and have the supporting background knowledge.

The Course is largely practical assessment can include;

1. Picking up a mooring buoy
2. Coming alongside in various wind and tide
3. Departing a pontoon in various wind and tide
4. Turning in a confined space
5. MOB recovery
6. Anchoring
7. High speed handling (trim, steering etc.)

The trainer will also check your knowledge of;

1. Distress portocalls
2. Safety equipment
3. IRPCS
4. Sources of weather information
5. Hull shapes and engine types
6. Tidal heights
7. Chart work & electronic navigation

1. Minimum age 16 years
2. Relevant experience in a variety of craft
3. RYA Powerboat Level 2 (essential)
4. RYA Powerboat Intermediate (recommended)
5. RYA Day-skipper Shorebased (recommended)
