Project: SUP Safe Communities
Enjoy paddleboarding with greater confidence and learn the practical skills that could prevent a day on the water becoming an emergency.
SUP Safe is a FREE two-hour community water safety session designed to help paddleboarders understand the risks they may encounter and, most importantly, what to do when things don’t go to plan.
During the session we'll get out on the water and cover essential practical skills including choosing and using the correct safety equipment, understanding tides and wind, recognising when conditions aren't suitable, staying with your board, self-rescue and getting back onto your board, helping another paddler in difficulty, and what to do if you need emergency assistance.
We'll also look at the local environment and how seemingly small decisions before and during a paddle can make a big difference to your safety.
This isn't about becoming an expert paddler or completing a traditional paddleboarding lesson. It's about giving you the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to make safer decisions every time you head onto the water.
All equipment is provided and the session is delivered by experienced, qualified Waterborn instructors.
Duration: 2 hours
Cost: FREE
Group size: Maximum 12 participants
Location: Waterborn Hub CIC, Kingsbridge
SUP Safe has been created to remove the financial barrier to accessing potentially life-saving water safety education. Whether you're relatively new to paddleboarding or you've been paddling recreationally for some time, there is something here that could make your next paddle safer.
Know the risks. Learn the skills. SUP Safe.
As part of SUP Safe, your instructor will also demonstrate the use of an Airbelt personal flotation device, including how it is worn, activated and used in an emergency.
The instructor demonstration is included free of charge as part of the session.
If you would like to personally experience deploying and using an Airbelt on the water, you can add this to your booking for £15 per person. This contribution covers the replacement CO₂ cylinder and associated consumables required after each deployment.
Trying the Airbelt yourself is completely optional and is not required to take part in SUP Safe.
