This will be our launch point under the foot of the Famous Glenfinnan monument, famous for its role in the Harry Potter movies and our start of the paddle down the magnificent and massive Loch Shiel(the fourth largest Loch in Scotland, shadowed by towering mountains on either side and wild forests, it’s a beautiful setting.
Camp 1 - Loch Shiel
Day 2
We continue our journey down Loch Sheil, The mountainous scenery now breaks into lowland pastures as the Loch turns westward before draining into the gentle River Shiel. Camping not far from the historic St Finans chapel, we will make a short stop here to explore the ancient burial ground.
Camp 2 - Loch Shiel
Day 3 - River and Sea
The River is an easy mellow river with one small section of grade 1 until the River Drops into Cairn Pool. Dependant on tides, we most probably will have to portage round this section. We are now on saltwater and paddling into the historic Loch Moidart before setting camp on a remote island.
Camp 3 - Loch Moidart
Day 4 - Our chance to explore the beautiful North And South Channels as well as Loch Moidart. There is lots to see here, including the beautiful Castle Thoran, old crofts as well as being home to white tailed sea eagles, seals and sea otters and more.
45km spread across four days paddling. Not for beginners!
We will be collected from here via taxi and returned back to our meeting point in Fort William for 4.30pm on the Sunday!
