2026 Tri Club - new to sea swim

If you can already swim 200meters comfortably and are new to open water or sea swimming and have your first event this coming season, this is an essential session for you. Dive into the exhilarating world of sea swimming with our "2026 Tri Club - New to Sea Swim" sessions in the beautiful Goodrington Beach. Hosted by Devon Sea Swim Ltd, this 30-minute coached session, is designed to empower you with the sea swim skills and confidence needed to conquer your open water event safely and calmly.. Rhian, Torbay Tri Club Level 2 British Triathlon coach, experienced open water swimmer and coach, Swim England swim teacher, SLSGB Beach Life Guard and RYA Yachtmaster/Coastal Skipper, will guide you through the basics of open water and sea swimming including the essentials of how finish putting on your wetsuit, equipment needed, acclimatisation to minimise cold water shock, how to enter water safely, how to move in the water in your very buoyant wetsuit, how to use breathing to keep calm while swimming, how to deal with panic, basic safety, how to prevent hypothermia during and post swim, safe exits , ensuring a safe experience as you build your confidence to swim round the iconic Goodrington Beach Torbay Tri Club swim buoys.

Whether you're transitioning from the pool to open water, or open water to sea swimming, this session is perfect for you. 1. Swimmers must be able to swim 200 meters (8 lengths of a 25meter swimming pool) continuously and comfortably in the sea
2. Please contact me if you want to discuss if you are suitable for this session.

1. Wetsuits, googles, bright coloured swim hat and tow floats are essential. Non wetsuits swimmers must be confirmed before booking.
2. Booties/wetsuit socks are not essential but advisable to protect feel from rocks, shells, weaver fish etc.
3. Towel and / or changing robe
4. Warm loose layered clothing including warm hat and socks for post swim warming up.
5. Post swim snack and warm drink.
6. Waterproof pouch for car keys/electronics
7. Any medications that may be required pre/during/after swimming
8. Consider carrying personal safety equipment such as a whistle (to attract attention) and a mobile phone (to call for assistance).

1. Swimmers will be ready to enter the water at the start of session.
2. Session begins with safety brief at waters edge
3. Coaching session will focus on improving open water swimming confidence and safety.
4. Session will take place within swim area set by coach.
5. Sessions end at the waters edge.
6. A public outside shower is available by toilets to wash off sea water for safety and hygiene.
