Learn about iNaturalist and how to use it, whilst spotting and identifying fungi
Come learn all about the fascinating world of mushroom identification! This is an iNaturalist focused free event - with the aim of introducing the platform and how to use it to record things in nature to contribute to community science. In this case, we’ll be focusing on fungi.
Please do download the iNaturalist app in advance and sign up, as we’ll be aiming to get everyone recording something as we go.
You'll spend a couple hours with Marina, guide and iNaturalist ambassador, exploring the local landscape and learning how to find, record, and identify different types of mushrooms. We'll seek to compile a nice list of fungi in the area! *
Along the way, you may gain insight into their habitats, seasons, and typical features, learn how to use books and keys, and how to go about data collection for identification on your own.
This activity is focused on ID practices only, so no foraging will go on.
This activity is not strenuous as mushroom spotting is a slow-paced activity, though there will likely be mud and the typical forest terrain to navigate. You can come and go as you like.
Location: There is parking at the location, near Berkhamsted.
Accessibility: There are no toilet facilities nearby.
Other: Well behaved dogs on leads are okay.
This is a free event as part of the voluntary iNaturalist ambassador programme!
*please note I’m only recently recovering from ankle surgery and only just going outside again, so I’m limited in mobility and energy :)
