See the fireworks from a perfect viewpoint on the river!
Description
Join our club & coaches fireworks paddle to Battersea. We will be paddling down to Battersea Park to watch the fireworks from the river. We weill be finishing at Cremorne Riverside in Chelsea so this is a one way trip. There are 3 equipment options to choose from when booking:
- BYOB (bring your own board) and equipment
- Rent an inflatable board from Kew Bridge and return after the event or the following day.
- Rent a board from Kew to be transported back by Active 360 at an additional cost.
This is a TSK 1 trip so you must have completed the Thames Skills & Knowledge course (theory and practical). You should also have good experience on the Tideway between Teddington and Putney and ideally some experience between Putney and Chelsea.
Requirements
What to bring
What to wear/bring?
- Lights (front and back)
- Flask - if you would like to bring a hot drink, we can refill at Cremorne Gardens just before the fireworks.
Remember to check weather forecast and dress accordingly.
In warm weather (spring/summer):
- gym/jogging type quick drying 'technical' clothing
- footwear is essential - neoprene/water shoes are best, if not a spare pair of trainers or old sandals (with a heel strap) will do. Your feet will get wet! NO FLIP FLOPS (you may lose them in the water and the river mud)
- change of clothes and a towel just in case you take a little dip during your SUP lesson
- extra layers to put on after the activity (exercise makes us feel a bit chilly after)
- waterproof case for your phone if you are planning to take it on water with you
- retainers for your glasses/sunglasses (don't lose them!)
- wetsuits are available on site if required
- sunscreen is a MUST in the summer even on an overcast day.
- make sure you arrive HYDRATED to your session (please start drinking water 1- 2 hrs before your session and drink plenty of water!)
Where can I leave my belongings? We will be taking our belongings with us so please travel light. Bring a dry bag to transport anything necessary for the trip. If you are renting a board to return to Kew then you may be able to leave belongings there.
Itinerary
We will start at Kew Bridge with a safety briefing before heading out onto the water. We will be paddling down with the Ebb tide to Cremorne Gardens in Chelsea. There we will stop for a hot drink and chance to fill up or refill a flask and also a chance to use the toilet facilities. Then a short paddle with the last of the Ebb tide up to Battersea Park where we will have a viewpoint of the Battersea fireworks display. Afterwards we will have a short paddle back to Cremorne against the tide and finish with hot drinks and some snacks.
