    Bank-Side Pike Fishing Adventure

Pike Fishing is permitted on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout March and October.

Bank permits : a maximum of ten will be issued each day.

The thrill of nature, rod in hand, casting off from the bank! Embark on an enthralling experience at the stunning Llandegfedd Visitor & Activity Centre, with our dedicated bank-side pike fishing adventure. We offer this exhilarating activity exclusively on Mondays and Tuesdays during March and October. During these times, anglers have a less crowded, more serene setting to cast their rods out into the waters and potentially reel in a big catch! Our pike permits are exclusive and limited to ensure an uncluttered and peaceful fishing experience for all participants. Each day, we allocate seven permits for boating and ten permits for bank-side fishing. This ensures plenty of room for each enthusiast to enjoy the tranquility of the environment while waiting for that telltale tug on the line. Set in the magnificent Pontypool surroundings, this event promises not only the thrill of pike fishing but also a day immersed in beautiful scenery and wildlife. Whether you're an experienced angler or a novice looking to try something new, the anticipation and exhilaration of pike fishing from the bank is an incredible way to connect with nature. So come along, cast your line, and let the adventure begin at Llandegfedd Visitor & Activity Centre.

Please note children must be accompanied by an adult and hold a rod licence if aged 13 and over.

    Requirements

    Llandegfedd Pike fishing rules

    Fishing dates

Pike fishing is permitted on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout March and October.

    Permit allocation

Pike permits are available for a maximum of 7 boats each day. Bank permits are also available and a maximum of ten will be issued each day.

    Fishing areas

During October due to our SSSI closure requirements, fishing will not be permitted between the fence at Bill Smiths bay and the inlet. There will also be an exclusion zone of 100m offshore.

Boat fishing is not permitted within 50m of any bank where anglers are present, bank anglers will take priority.

    Fishing times

    Boat – 9-5

    Bank – 9-5

    Methods

    1. Only lure or dead bait fishing is permitted at Llandegfedd. Dead baits must be blast frozen and only marine species will be allowed.
    2. Fly fishing for Pike will not be allowed
    3. Live baiting is strictly forbidden
    4. A maximum of 2 rods per person can be used irrespective of the number of rod licences held by an individual.
    5. Trolling is permitted under power of oars only; all lines and gear must be brought inboard whilst underway.
    6. The use of fish finders is permitted but must be secured to boats in a manner that will not cause damage or marking of boat hulls, seats, or fittings.
    7. Large adequate landing nets and unhooking mats and relevant equipment are compulsory, and no fish will be taken to the bank for photographing. Any fish photographed must be properly supported by the anglers to minimise risk of injury to internal organs. Anglers found holding large pike by the gill covers and allowing them to hang freely will be removed from the water and excluded from future fishing sessions. Fish should be returned to the water as soon as possible after unhooking and not retained in the boat or handled repeatedly to allow photos to be taken.

Please remember that the health and welfare of pike caught at Llandegfedd is paramount to the health of the pike population and ecosystem of the reservoir.

Wow, a beautiful place to visit with the family. If you're into trekking, go past the bbq areas and past the gold course. There is a little treasure at the end which the kids will love.
