    This 4 day intensive course is designed for swimmers eager to build confidence and work on their fundamental skills for open water freestyle swimming.

    Whether you’re training for an open-water challenge, or simply looking to improve your skills outside of the pool, this course focuses on essential knowledge and techniques specific to open water.


    What's included:

    1. Through a blend of technique drills, endurance training, and situational awareness exercises, participants will learn to adapt and improve basic freestyle techniques for open water.
    2. Topics include effective breathing patterns, sighting methods to stay on course, managing waves and currents, pacing for longer distances, and mental techniques for staying calm and focused.
    3. Decision making when it comes to planning swims and forecasting apps will be covered.
    4. Finishing the week with a beautiful swim down the River Gannel.
    5. Plus a WOW open water swim hat :)





    Who is it suitable for?

    The course is ideal for beginner to intermediate swimmers with basic freestyle experience who want to increase skills and technique confidently into open water environment.

    Take the plunge and develop the freedom and skills to enjoy swimming in the ocean!



    When & Where?

    Starting on Thursday 26th June - Sunday 29th June 2025 and is approximately 1 hour. Please note the following time coincide with the high tide, which makes for better swimming in these locations;

    1. Thursday @ 07:30 - Newquay Harbour/ Towan
    2. Friday @ 07:30 - Newquay Harbour/ Towan
    3. Saturday @ 08:00 - Newquay Harbour/ Towan
    4. Sunday @ 08:30 - River Gannel

    Please note: The water temperature is averages between 15-19 degrees, so please be prepared for cold water swimming. Time in the water will depend on conditions on the day; but around 40-50 minutes, or less if you are feeling cold.




    Cancellation: the session may be cancelled at short notice in poor weather/sea conditions, a transfer or full refund will be offered. We operate a 72 hour cancellation policy if you need to cancel, after which a £75 fee will be charged.

    Requirements
    1. Must be able to swim basic front crawl at least 100m.
    2. Must be able to treadwater with confidence.



    What to bring
    1. A wetsuit is mandatory unless prior agreement with the coach.
    2. Swimsuit
    3. Swimming Hat & Goggles
    4. Earplugs (optional)
    5. Swimming Boots & Gloves (optional)
    6. Tow Float (optional)
    7. Fins/Flippers (if you have them)
    8. A towel or dryrobe
    9. Warm, suitable clothes & a woolly hat for after
    10. Hot drink, water and snack


    The water is cold and it is your responsibility to get warm and dry as quickly as possible after the session.
