Take your swimming to the next level and set yourself a challenge!
2025 brings a new, condensed version of the Coach to 1K programme set over a 6 week period.
This course is designed to guide swimmers to confidently complete 1,000 meters in open water. Whether you're preparing for your first triathlon, an open water race, or simply want to conquer the challenge; this programme combines endurance building, technical skills, and safety awareness to ensure a successful and enjoyable swim.
What's included?
- Sessions: 4 technical pool sessions and 6 open water swims.
- Freestyle Stroke Mechanics: Building on your basic foundations, through pool swimming drills and personalised coaching advice.
- Open Water Techniques: Master sighting, drafting, and turning to navigate effectively in open water.
- Adaptation to Conditions: Train to handle waves, currents, and varying water temperatures.
- Breathing & Efficiency: Develop breathing rhythms and stroke mechanics suited for open water.
- Pacing & Endurance: Build the stamina needed to swim 1,000 meters with confidence.
- You will also be given a printed waterproof training programme which includes suggested drills and fitness plans, along with a WOW Club swimming hat.

When & Where?
Starting 20th May - 26th June 2025
Tuesdays: Pool Sessions - 18:30
Thursdays: Open Water Sessions - 18:30
Our final swim and your WOW challenge will be to swim the River Gannel on a super tide!
Location
Sessions will be held in areas close to Newquay & St Austell depending on the weather and conditions. So be aware that the location will change on a weekly basis. The pool sessions will be held in St Columb and you will be notified of these accordingly.

Instalments can be made, please contact me first. An initial deposit of £75 will be required to hold your place.

Please note: The water temperature is averages between 11-16 degrees, so please be prepared for cold water swimming. Time in the water will depend on conditions on the day; but around 40-50 minutes, or less if you are feeling cold.
Cancellation: the session may be cancelled at short notice in poor weather/sea conditions, a transfer or full refund will be offered. We operate a 72 hour cancellation policy if you need to cancel, after which a £75 fee will be charged.

Requirements
What to bring
- A wetsuit is mandatory unless prior agreement with the coach.
- Swimsuit
- Swimming Hat & Goggles
- Swimming Boots & Gloves (optional)
- Earplugs (optional)
- Tow Float
- Swim Fins (at coach request)
- A towel or dryrobe
- Warm, suitable clothes & a woolly hat for after
- Hot drink and snack
The water is cold and it is your responsibility to get warm and dry as quickly as possible after the session.
