Description
We are pleased to announce that our winter sessions are now open to non-members! These sessions serve as both an induction for new participants and regular winter paddling opportunities. Winter sessions are held every other Sunday throughout the winter, with occasional evening sessions (moonlight paddles).
This session will introduce you to Salford Paddlesports Club and how it operates. We'll engage in water activities and offer coaching to those new to paddlesports. The session starts at 12pm, beginning with a quick tour, after which we'll get on the water.
Pre-Requisites:- Open to adults and juniors over 14 years old
- Parental consent required for participants aged 14-17 years
- All participants must be water confident and able to swim independently for 100m
Salford Quays is very deep, and as this is a member-led club, it is not safe for non-swimmers or anyone who cannot physically self-rescue back onto the craft if they fall in. Salford Watersports Centre will provide staff members to assist while the club gets up and running. These staff members will offer general coaching and help organise optional games/activities during each session.
During the session, basic coaching will be provided for those new to paddle sports. If, by the end, it's determined that you require extra coaching before safely participating in club sessions, the staff will offer guidance and provide recommendations for next steps.
All participants must accept personal responsibility. While staff will be available, they will be supervising the entire group.
Kit:- If you have your own paddleboard or kayak in decent condition, please bring it along. Otherwise, we will have a mixture of paddleboards and kayaks available.
- Under 17's must wear a helmet (provided)
- ALL participants must wear a buoyancy aid (provided). You may bring your own, but it needs to be inspected by centre staff and have a CE mark. If you have a 'Life Jacket', bring your service history.
- Lightweight clothing such as shorts/t-shirt or gym clothing is acceptable. Warm clothes/waterproofs are fine as long as they're not too heavy.
- Everyone must be suitably dressed (covered); no swimming costumes, bikinis, or bare chests.
- EVERYONE MUST WEAR SHOES ON THE WATER - These need to be closed-toe and secure (no flip flops or sliders). Old trainers or wet shoes are acceptable.
- Wetsuit Hire is available (Discounted for club members)
- The centre has male and female changing rooms/toilets with showers, plus 2 separate individual/accessible toilets/showers.
- Lockers are available for club users - please bring a £1 coin as the centre often does not have change.
- Any belongings are left at the owner's risk.
- We advise against taking valuables on the water. The club or centre is not responsible for lost items.
- If you wear glasses, consider bringing a strap to prevent losing them if you fall in.
