Want to learn how to paddle board?
Well, you've come to the right place. Whether you’re looking to improve your SUP skills, or you’re giving paddle boarding a go for the first time, we have you covered with instructor led sessions suitable for all ages and abilities.
Where
Depending on flow rate, this session will either take place on the River Wey in Addlestone, or on the non-tidal stretch of the River Thames in Chertsey, Surrey.
Other areas must be pre arranged and may include: Shepperton, Weybridge, Kingston Upon Thames, Sunbury, Woking, Chertsey, Byfleet, Pyford, Ripley, and Guildford.

What will I learn?
Sessions are tailored to you. We are here to help develop your desired goals, from standing up and paddling confidently, to fine tuning your forward stroke, or gaining confidence on busy rivers. Other things you can expect to learn include:
- Identifying and setting up suitable equipment
- Carrying and launching
- Safety and rescue skills
- Environment
- Identifying hazards
- Efficient forward paddling
- Turning, including stepback and cross bow rudder
- Basic trip planning
- Basic tidal training; navigation rules, river traffic, tideway code
- Opportunity to paddle different boards

- Photos! So you can put your phone away and enjoy the session
- Use of all paddle kit (or feel free to bring your own). We will provide you with a SUP, paddle, buoyancy aid, dry bag, QR belt.
Not included
- Parking fees
- We will meet at a riverside car park with limited facilities
- You are welcome to join the session with your own paddle board and equipment. Please keep in mind that if you are using your own board, you must have a valid Paddle UK On the Water membership (formally known as British Canoeing). You can purchase your membership here.
- Clothing: you must provide your own appropriate clothing. We'd suggest either activewear or a wetsuit 3/2mm / drysuit - depending on weather conditions on the day

FAQ’S
- Can I come solo? Absolutely
- Do I need my own kit? paddle kit included
- Age requirements? Suitable for ages 14+, however anyone under the age of 18 needs to be accompanied in the session by a parent / legal guardian 21 years and over.
- What should I wear? Weather appropriate clothing for SUP such as quick drying activewear, wetsuit or drysuit & shoes you don't mind getting wet.
- Do you offer discounts for groups? Group between 6 and 10 please get in touch for a discount.
- Do I need to be a Paddle Up member? Nope.

⭐ This is a private session. You can either book a 1:1, or as a couple, or a small group of up to 6. You will notice that a discount will be applied at checkout if you book for more than one participant. 🩹 The quality of our local waterways is something to always be aware of and it’s important to do your own research regarding this. When paddle boarding with us we ask that you cover up any minor cuts and abrasions, and to wash once you are home if you fall/swim in the river, this is to reduce the risk of disease such as weil's disease. Paddle Up strongly recommends not to participate in paddling if I have any open wounds, and instead to reschedule. Read our FAQ's here.
Requirements
This lesson is open to all but we do ask that you are...
- Fit for paddling
- A confident swimmer
- Can get from kneeling to standing on land. Please contact us if you have reduced mobility.
- Suitable for ages 14+, however anyone under the age of 18 needs to be accompanied in the session by a parent / legal guardian 21 years and over.

What to bring
What to wear: Wear weather appropriate clothing for SUP, quick drying active wear, wetsuit or drysuit. Shoes you don't mind getting wet.
Remember to bring the following; Bottle of water, sun cream, hat, waterproofs, snacks, & any medication eg inhaler. And don't forget to pack a towel and a change of warm clothes.
SUP kit is available to use, but feel free to bring your own.
