Improver Sailing Clinic Sessions at Killington
Description
**Please sign in to Eola to be able to reuse the same declaration questionnaire on any future bookings.**
This is an improver clinic to develop specific skills or seek general improvement. It is possible to work through RYA Level 2 and Seamanship Skills Syllabuses over multiple sessions. Remember your log book so it can ticked off as you develop specific skills.
There is a range of boats available to sail in and choice will depend on skill to be practised and who else attends.
During this course we aim to maximise water time, but there will be some land based theory such as knot tying, rules of the road and land drills practicing skills.
In the event of inclement weather we may have to simplify and reduce the time on the water, including but not limited to limiting how many people are on the water at one time.
Level 2 certificate/ seamanship skills is included if required and if the standard is achieved. Extra session/ observations may be required.

What to bring
Clothing
Please come prepared in clothing and footwear that you can get wet in.
For most of the year a wetsuit is highly recommended but layers are important to keep you warm as you can be sat around and possibly get wet. The club does not supply any wetsuits.
Quick drying layers, base layers, fleeces and a waterproof layer can all help. A waterproof layer can help keep the wind chill off. Trainers work well as a footwear option. In sunny, warm weather please consider suncream. A change of clothes and a towel for going home in is useful.
If you wear glasses please consider wearing a glasses retainer strap.
Killington Sailing Club is 600 feet above sea level, more exposed and generally colder than Arnside. Remember that it also tends to be cooler on the water than on land. It is better to bring too much clothing than too little.
Buoyancy Aids
We can provide buoyancy aids, sailing gloves and safety helmets (particularly for children) If you have your own buoyancy aid (min 50N, in good condition, appropriate for your size- see the label on the inside), please bring it with you, the instructor will make a decision on its suitability before going on the water.
Itinerary
The course is a mix of theory topics and on the water sailing.
The course will cover topics including improving general sailing technique and use of 5 essentials, coming alongside a boat, recovering a man overboard and sailing around a course.
There may be a wet capsize drill as part of the course.
The aim is to cover parts of the RYA Level 2 syllabus and/or seamanship skills over the sessions. (This is dependent upon weather conditions and ability)
